I wonder if being stupid is a correlation or a causation of being an oligarch.

Being uber wealthy allows for a level of detachment from reality that normies literally cannot afford.

Or that the West supplies Ukraine with intelligence and happily tells them where all the valuable targets are.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Looks like Ukraine started an offensive in Kursk region, gaining some tactical victories while doing so. Especially because Russia claims they repelled the offensive and will continue "destroying" ukrainians.

Source? Everything I have seen shows them on the backfoot up there.
Would be great news if it checks out though.
    And speaking of news, heres something interesting;

    https://www.skynews.com.au/world-new...671214292b180e

Basically hes saying that there is a lot of discontent happening in russia right now due to all the lives being needlessly lost, and it might be enough to bring putin down.
Heres another one hinting at sort of the same thing.

Vladimir Putin hit by 'mutiny' from key group as Russian economy falters amid Ukraine war

Not 100% certain of these sources, they aren't the usual ones, but maybe a serious resistance is quietly forming in russia right now.

Edit : I see it now. CNN has picked it up. Nice to see some good news.

No direct english translation so I used the AI on Opera GX. Finnish newspapers quoting the following links.

Ukrainian defense forces are having success in the Kursk region. In Kursk, Russians were attacked on several fronts. This information was confirmed by the National Security and Defense Council and the Office of the President. "In Kursk, the Russians are having a lot of trouble, because they were attacked on several fronts and it was a surprise for them. The defense forces are working," wrote Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak also briefly commented on the situation: "Kursk, good news, Russia is getting what it deserves." Recall that on August 6, Ukraine launched a sudden offensive in Russia's Kursk region. The Armed Forces of Ukraine claim control over dozens of settlements, including the district center of Sudzha. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region "is still inflicting losses on the Russian army and the Russian state, their defense industry and economy." According to him, Ukraine's main task is "to destroy as much Russian potential as possible and carry out maximum counter-strike work, with the aim of creating a buffer zone."
Also some Twitter in the mix, with russian milblogger links - https://x.com/RALee85/status/1875821632473674152

A number of Russian channels say that Ukraine has began an offensive operation from near Sudzha towards Bolshoye Soldatskoye in Kursk oblast with armored vehicles. They say Ukrainian EW has been effective against their UAVs and that Ukrainian units cleared mines overnight.

Entire battalion of Russian and North Korean troops slaughtered in attack on Ukraine-held village

    ...this part is...disturbing;

Trump responded favourably to the possibility raised by French President Emmanuel Macron of Western peacekeepers being deployed in Ukraine to oversee an agreement that stops the fighting...

It makes more sense when you realize that Russia is a country with a massive problem with alcoholism. The highest rates of it in the world, as a matter of fact.

They have been drinking themselves stupid for ages.

You kind of have to be drinking a lot when your country is run by the Russian government.

I've been reading up some threads on declassified nuclear accidents in the USSR, and man... I'd give my third testicle not to have to share a breathable atmosphere with these people.

I remember reading somewhere that back in the day vodka was used as a cheap way for the government to keep the population of russia in line. In the 1800s they made it so cheap and easy to buy in order to keep everyone drunk and it was great way to have them forget that the population was miserable and starving. Before the Ukraine war it was also like the highest cause of early death.
When Putin was coming into power, he made sure to get himself a distillery and name of brand of vodka after himself. It was some brilliant branding.

Silly me thinking it would be easier to feed the population with potatoes and wheat, rather than making alchohol of said potatoes and wheat so they don't "feel" hungry.

When everything is shit, being drunks feeling of euphoria is preferable to feeling full and being miserable. It Masks the symptoms.
Plus once sober, seeing how it's all still shit, you drink again to forget about it.
    Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Well that is a shame - one of russia's worst propagandists, and the husband of the head of RT, went to a restaurant, ate something that disagreed with him, was clinically dead for a bit and is now in a coma.

The question is who did he offend, what did they use on him and how will they blame Ukraine.

It doesn't even have to be an attack on him personally, it could be a warning to Simeoyan as well.

    Not exactly.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20130928...russia/279965/

van the Terrible established kabaks (establishments where spirits were produced and sold) in the 1540s, and in the 1640s they had become monopolies. In 1648, tavern revolts broke out across the country, by which time a third of the male population was in debt to the taverns. In the 1700s, Russian rulers began to profit from their subjects’ alcoholism, as Brown, who spent 10 years covering Russia for Forbes magazine, explained. “[Peter the Great] decreed that the wives of peasants should be whipped if they dared attempt to drag their imbibing husbands out of taverns before the men were ready to leave.”

Peter the Great was also, according to Brown, able to form a phalanx of unpaid workers by allowing those who had drunk themselves into debt to stay out of debtors prison by serving 25 years in the army.
Basically the tsar set up a monopoly on the production and sale of alcohol, turning it into a major revenue source that went DIRECTLY to the crown itself.

Lenin tried to enforce prohibition between 1917 and 1925 but upon his death Stalin repealed the prohibition and relaunched the old state monopoly.

After Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev and Gorbachev all attempted different restrictions on the sale of alcohol and launched various anti-alcoholism campaigns, with Gorbachev's campaign being probably the most strict and severe, something Yeltsin actually used against Gorbachev.

Russia's Neighbor Takes Big Step Towards Europe in Blow to Putin

The Armenian government on Thursday approved draft legislation to kickstart the process of the nation's accession to the European Union, a move which will serve as a blow to its neighbor, Russia. Armenia's relations with Russia have deteriorated since President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The country has sought to distance itself from Moscow, while deepening its relations with Europe. In March 2024, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said the country was considering applying for EU membership. Armenia is also in the process of withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)—a group of post-Soviet states considered to be Moscow's answer to NATO.

Hmm..just another event to add to Putin’s ill health.

Pootie's colony in Transnistria is in trouble. They had been receiving gas for free from russia but that ended on Jan 1. During winter. There is no hot water or cooking gas for most people and almost no businesses or schools are open.

The Moldovan government offered to buy gas from the EU market but the local authorities were told by their Kremlin bosses to say nyet.

Somehow the Kremlin thinks it can use the crisis to further interfere with Moldova, when Transnistria collapsing like Syria is more likely.
