Armenia's relations with Russia have deteriorated since President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The country has sought to distance itself from Moscow, while deepening its relations with Europe. In March 2024, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said the country was considering applying for EU membership. Armenia is also in the process of withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)—a group of post-Soviet states considered to be Moscow's answer to NATO.

Hmm..just another event to add to Putin’s ill health.
Hope they are ready for a "civil war".
Or I guess they are hoping that Russia is so weakened by the war in Ukraine that this is the best chance they are going to get.

    Couple of issues with that.

    1. It would only ever work if Georgia joins first or they join together.
    2. Armenia might actually run into a technicality as I am not sure if it has any territories that are inside what is considered geographical Europe.
    3. Also like Georgia and Moldova, it would need to find some sort of permanent solution to its contested territories problem.

    I also forgot.

    4. Turkey might be more mad about it than Russia. Unironically.

If Syria folding is any indication… beyond the failure in Ukraine already… Russia’s ability to “project power” is absolutely shot.

Turkey also doesn't really get a say about EU matters unlike NATO ones, thankfully.

Article 49 (formerly Article O) of the Treaty on European Union (TEU)[4] or Maastricht Treaty states that any European country that respects the principles of the EU may apply to join. Countries' classification as European is "subject to political assessment"[5] by the Commission and, more importantly, the European Council.

In 1987, Morocco applied to join the European Communities (the precursor to the European Union). The application was rejected on the grounds that Morocco was not considered to be a "European country" and hence could not join. The EU has generally taken a broad view of what counts as a European country, having approved the application of Cyprus and has ruled that Armenia,[6] Georgia, and Turkey satisfy the requirements for application.

Although non-European states are not considered eligible to be members, they may enjoy varying degrees of integration with the EU, set out by international agreements. This currently includes the European Neighbourhood Policy, Union for the Mediterranean, and a variety of other European Union Association Agreements and EU free trade agreements. Non-EU European states are also participating (with or without the goal of eventual EU membership) in the Stabilisation and Association Process, Eastern Partnership, European Free Trade Association, EU-Russia Common Spaces, and Northern Dimension.

    Also, as mentioned, Cyprus.

I know if it's a bit far fetched, but if Trump insists on the whole coercion by economics thing, Canada going hard on EU ties is really the only real way forward.

It's that or China or really becoming Trump's personal whipping boy.

Also, this is assuming Trump and Musk don't cripple the EU through the AfD, Le Pen, Orban, Fico etc.

Honestly, the Russians and the Chinese are laughing their asses off right now. They didn't need to win militarily, or economically, they won by us forfeiting and breaking the West by ourselves, cuz trans people in bathrooms and the price of eggs or something (which we all forgot about anyway).

Damn, Yandex trying to remove refineries from its maps didn't help.

And here I was sure that Ukraine wouldn't be able to find them anymore.

Why hasn't Russia tried pushing the refineries so that way Ukraine's maps are wrong?

What should California do with $500 million worth of weapons? Sounds like another fire hazard.

$500 mill? With 50 millies I would ensure California never sees a widespread fire ever again, could probably do it with even less than that.

Might want to message them. I'm sure they would be absolutely delighted to hear this plan of yours. No doubt would be cheaper and better than what they are currently doing.

The plan is to make giant fucking fans that will blow in the opposite direction of the Santa Ana winds to nullify the bellows effect.

So how does warfare equipment help against wildfires? You tell the climate about Stand Your Ground doctrine and the firelords stay away?
