So, the question begs to be ask is why? Why the hell strike Chernobyl? Especially the part where radiation is at its worst. I mean, it won't affect very many people in Ukraine and affect more in Belarus if the radiation spreads.

Knowing Russia I feel like it could be either malice or incompetence, maybe even both.
"In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance." Paradox of tolerance

Probably just aiming for another kindergarten and missed.
My whole political stance pretty much boils down to "I care about other people and the planet" and wow does that make some people mad.

Could also be more nuclear blackmail, a not so subtle reminder that if they don't get their way they can do worse - especially as Trump would do nothing about it.
Easy, extortion/blackmail. Do what we want or else.
I was expecting Chernobyl to play a role in this after Trump or Harris got in power, but I was kinda hoping they would forget about it. It's a horrible negotiating tactic, threatening with nuclear meltdowns has got to be the lowest of the low.
Trading one nuclear nightmare for another isnt exactly sound logic.
Besides, as I recall, what remains of Russias nuclear arsenal is still quite large. If anyone could just "blow it up" before Russia had a chance to retaliate with said nuclear weapons, dont you think theyd have done it?
I mean there was this whole "Cold War" thing where the issue was that we couldnt just do that. Maybe you heard about it?
"Winning? Is that what you think it’s about? I’m not trying to win. I’m not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It’s not because it’s fun. God knows it’s not because it’s easy. It’s not even because it works because it hardly ever does.. I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE IT’S RIGHT! Because it’s decent! And above all, it’s kind! It’s just that.. Just kind."

JD selling out Ukraine in Munich ends with:
He made a joke at one point saying, "if American democracy can survive 10 years of Greta Thunberg scolding, you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk". And then he paused for the applause, to be met with absolute dead silence.
"It was very nice to hear Vance's very strong speech," says a correspondent on Rossiya 1, one of Russia’s most-watched TV stations.
“It was a public caning, I can't call it anything else. It was also nice to watch the faces of those listening to him," Asya Yemelyanova goes on, laughingly.
I wonder what Xi is thinking
Xi should consider how much better his position in the multipolar world would be if Europe had a better relation to China than it does to the US. And while that would have been unthinkable a decade ago, it's not now. I know a lot of people around the world would rather see Europe humbled and reduced in importance but I just don't see it happening. It is not a great power, but it still has significant wealth and resources that cannot be replaced by Central Asia or Africa (and definitely not by Russia).
