russia is saying that in the event of a ceasefire, peacekeepers from NATO countries are completely unacceptable. Because everyone knows that when russia starts hostilities again (and that is a given) they only want peacekeepers who will run away at the first sign of trouble or actively sell information to them.

It is one thing to try to tentatively pursue and attempt diplomacy, but it is quite another to blatantly apportion most of the blame on the side under war.

International geopolitics is not quite like a bloated corporation in New York - it is much less trickle-down, much more nuanced and complicated, and it is not so much about the hierarchy of a CEO and his Board telling others beneath them what to do, as it is about trying to negotiate as equals - on the basic principle that every state is equal and no one's sovereign rights can or should be violated.

Trump suggests Ukraine shouldn't have fought back against Russia

The problem is with this logic is that it is inconsistent, if Israel is attacked by Iran, or if Taiwan by China, or Colombia by Venezuela, would he not support them fighting back also? Why then is Ukraine the sole exception in such an ethos? You cannot apply such a standard to one situation/conflict, and not also apply it to the others by that same token.
Well, Trump has always been a victim blamer. Why stop now?

5 years of arguing against misinformation, falsehoods, outright lies and simple trolls, only for POTUS to come out and say the same nonsense.
    Gg folks.
It's not a problem if you don't look up.

    Did anyone expect any different?

Like honestly. I don’t know why this is coming as a surprise or shock or revelation to anyone.

Anyone expecting otherwise was, to quote Fury Road, “relying on the gratitude of a very bad man.”

"Working hard"? It's already done. Your former allies consider you an adversary and someone they no longer share core values with.

This damage isn't repairable with an election of a new leader, either. There is no returning to the past normal. The relationships are broken and it's clear the USA cannot be trusted any more, not even to keep their word or to maintain basic principles. While "leader of the free world" was always only a self-appointed bit of jingoistic bullshit, you're not part of the "free world" any more in any real sense of the word, let alone a "leader" in anything meaningful.

Trump calls Ukrainian President Zelenskyy a dictator in social media post
President Donald Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "a dictator without elections" Wednesday in a Truth Social post, extending a verbal sparring match between the two world leaders the day after U.S. and Russian officials met without Ukraine to discuss terms to end Russia's three year old invasion.

"He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing (former president Joe) Biden “like a fiddle.” A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left," Trump posted on Truth Social.

Zelenskyy cancelled an election scheduled for spring 2024, saying it could not be held in the middle of an ongoing war and the consequent imposition of martial law, in accordance with the Ukrainian Constitution.
    Yeah, that tracks. No surprises.

Can you imagine if Republicans, and just people on the general right wing of things, were capable of genuine introspection? What a wild world that would be.

Uh...so how come we aren't talking about what is happening in the reality of what is happening?

Trump tried to extort Ukraine for half their natural resources in a very mob like maneuver of "shame if something happened to your country".

Ukraine decided that having the US plunder their country was not in their best interests.

Now Trump is giving Ukraine to Putin in punishment.

This is the US extorting another country to try to take over their natural resources and now punishing that country for not complying. It's grotesque.

While I agree with you I have to tell you the US does this all the time Trump is just doing it without all the usual obfuscations that make it more marketable. This was going to be the fate of Ukraine at the end of the war regardless of who was in charge, it's just that the price is higher because Trump loves Putin.

More like they are scared of their own shadow, there's zero chance any of them approve of this but you couldn't find a spine in congress if you meshed them all together.

Not gonna happen. Are you saying that the RN would align itself with Russia ? It could have happened 10 years ago. It would not now.

You can take your "both sides" bullshit, fold it up until it's all corners, and insert appropriately.
