I wouldn't put it past them, that it was entirely planned for them to loot and pillage after couple days of rations. Saves them money if they just rob from Ukraine rather than supply their troops from Russia/Belarus.

I'm pretty sure that is largely what Russia has done. Putin is also pushing countries like Finland and Sweden closer to NATO because they have seen how unhinged he is to invade Ukraine with no pretext.

I have something of an inside scoop there. Finland and Sweden are not closer to NATO because of this. Nor are they further away. Ignored by the world for the most part, they have lived under heavy Soviet pressure for basically the entire cold war. Sweden fled into neutrality, Finland played an artful game of balancing on a knife's edge. Whatever threats Putin throws their way, they can handle it and maintain their independence at the same time. But it means they won't join NATO anytime soon.

While at the same time doing exercises with NATO and buying NATO tech and generally conforming to NATO standards. You know... just in case.

This is a procedural vote, Russia can't veto it. I am curious, though: Russia has veto power, even though they're clearly the criminal here. If their actions in Ukraine are considered that bad, we might see a vote to kick Russia out of the Security Council -- and then, see how much China really cares.

Not happening, No permanent member wants to set the precedent of being able to be kicked out and having Russia in the UN to be able to to veto actions that cross their red lines in crucial in preventing all out war between super powers.

A thing to keep in mind with China-Russia trade, with all the sanctions against Russia and the efforts to limit their access to foreign capital it becomes a lot harder for Russia to trade with China.

In the same way that US soldiers have little problem killing people in Iraq but would probably be very hesitant to attack Canadians without due cause.

It's probably not a good idea to take random "reports" and twitter videos at face value. Especially not with one side trying to justify an unjustifiable war, and the other trying to keep the morale of its military/populace up in face of that bullshit.

That's a bit over dramatic. He still holds his trump cars - fossil fuels EU depends on. And at home he can sell his retreat however he wants. Not to mention he wont release Crimea or separatist states from his control.

He got many innocent people dead including his soldiers with their corpses all over the social media, he caused a massive refuge crisis, he delivered an extreme blow to the economy of his country and his friends, he is an official war criminal now, he has to pay reparations for ukraine, they banned him from everywhere. He will no longer be able to make credible threats to other countries after this humiliating defeat and the world no longer believes that Russia is a superpower. You can't just hide from these things and live with the damage you have caused. Actually, the russians may get serious about remove him from power and even kill him (similar to mussolini), even his inner circle probably hates him now.

Imo, russians have failed miserably in the communication/propaganda game, that's why they lost ukraine in the first place, they haven't done enough to inspire and convince the world to be with them, none wants to be with them, everyone prefers the west. Relying on military might alone and suppressing freedoms can't get you far. Russians seems to be very bad at marketing, their constant lies are also annoying, none trust them anymore. I have to admit that americans can get away with a lot just by being better on this game, they won the entire ukraine without dropping a bullet, genious indeed.

Russia needs someone like navalny in power, putin has made him a great favor right there.

I don't think retreat is option at this point for Putin no. It would indeed be a public humiliation of Russia that a 'super power' can't beat a state like Ukraine.
Worst case he goes full scorched earth, reduces Kyiv to rubble and pronounce himself victor over the remains.
