And again people are discussing a ceasefire as if it means anything when we are dealing with Russia...

NATO was because of, as you said, to prevent German aggression but honestly, it is more about Russia and their nonsense and has been for a LONG time.

…And when Ukraine appears to be completely out of the loop on it.

“Russia and US discuss Ukraine’s ceasefire” is utter inanity. Zelensky luckily seems clued in enough to know that anything trump “negotiated” is pure pro-Russian bullshit.

So, was Putin wearing a suit? Did he say "Thank you" to Trump 500 times? Or was he being disrespectful to Agent Orange and the Couchfucker?

I mean, according to Vance and the far right, those were the big things with Zelensky.

Solid effort there mr t, but time to let the adults talk now. I'm going back over here, to reality and my Liberal Death Cult in supporting peace in Ukraine by means of its ability to defend itself.

The Kremlin is claiming the truce went into effect immediately and is trying to acuse Ukraine of breaking it - after they already did so.

  8. #44328
How does one break a truce they were not party to exactly?

Things are not going well for the US. Trump is not capable to buy time for Ukraine until the Europeans/Ukrainians re-arm/re-organize and dems are re-elected, also the backup plan of creating new spheres of influence by absorbing panama/greenland/canada is not going well either, these states are determined to resist.

All this pro-Russia build up did not help stopping Putin. There is no going back now, if Russians are not defeated in the battlefield then they will never stop.

Trump hasn’t been trying to buy Ukraine time, he’s been trying to get Ukraine to surrender to Russia.

    Trump’s failures are Ukraine’s successes.

Thankfully those are things only Trump wants, not the US. Trump's failure is of no concern to America

Yeah no shit. Hence why a Russian “ceasefire” only helps Russia.

Not sure exactly a Panama/Greenland/Canada would be considered a sphere of influence, but congratulations on an almost sensible post.
I am relieved to say, I agree with you.
At least the part of it not going well for the US.

It's still pretty weird how much you want Russia to win.

No, NATO was formed explicitly against Russia. NATO re-armed West Germany to prepare for war with Russia almoust right away to a point of controversy because they were still armed and equipped with WW2 era Nazi Germany gear.

The USSR didnt exactly waste any time taking over the eastern half of Europe.

Wilian's correct. NATO wasn't formed until 1949, which was 2 years into the Cold War. Germany was also split in 2, so concern about West Germany rising again as a threat was not a factor at all. It was the Soviet Union that was the worry. The US troops there in the years after WW2 were simply to try to slow down a USSR advance when they moved into the rest of Europe if WW3 broke out. Similar to the 25k US troops in South Korea today if North Korea invades with 1M+, it would be a 1-way sacrifice mission just to try slow them down enough to counter.

Germany was a concern, the quip about "keeping the Germans down" is true, but misunderstood.

The concern was that without tying Germany into an alliance which would also guarantee German security, the Germans would inevitably at some point re-arm independently and with the intention to reunify, by force if need be, and possibly start another major European war in the process.

As a NATO member German re-armament could be controlled, as the Germans would buy a lot of their kit from the US, and wouldn't develop certain capabilities independently...like fighter jets, bombers, nukes, nuclear subs, ballistic missiles, also German reunification would become less of a security imperative as NATO would be West Germany's security guarantor, removing the need for another "greater Germany".

The Germans were definitely a major concern when NATO was formed, as most of the founders just fought a world war against the Germans less then 10 years before.

BREAKING: UK Special Forces on Standby for Potential Peacekeeping Mission in Ukraine
British special forces have been placed on standby for a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, according to iNews, which cited two military sources. The UK's ruling cabinet has reportedly directed military planners to prepare special forces for deployment, with the Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ) receiving instructions last week to ready both personnel and resources, including special forces reservists.

The Ministry of Defense has not provided any comment on the matter, adhering to its longstanding policy of not discussing the activities of special forces. It is speculated that the British government may prefer to use special forces for this mission due to their ability to deploy swiftly without needing approval from the House of Commons. The specific units involved in these preparations have not been disclosed.
Today the EU heads are having a meeting on re-arming across the continent.

Honestly, the best thing Europe could do right now is actually invade Ukraine from the west. Claim it as their own. No need to fight russia, but make sure everything up to the frontline is Europe's annexed territory.

That's the best security guarantee that Ukraine can have. Make Zelenskyy the governor of this new Ukraine Federation.
