It's actually worse than that: most innovation in the USSR already always was concentrated in the Ukraine SSR....so russia went to war with the people responsible for maintaining their nuclear arsenal, who were resonsible for the innovation in the USSR and who are not happy with forcible annexation...brilliant...

So apparently the Chinese foreign minister told the Europeans that China can not afford to have russia lose the war.

And the western world can't afford to have russia win.

But I wonder, why? Is China looking for a deal? Maybe work something out with Europe first so they can close the door on russia. Is this about cheap gas and oil?

The Chinese are worried that if the war ends, the US will turn all its attention to the pacific and China.

Of course Trump seems to have given up already.

In other words, "make deals with us", they are saying they are willing to sell Russia in exchange of good deals. Which is the normal Chinese MO.

The US turning its eye towards China is not contingent upon Russia winning or losing the war (besides the US is just as free if Russia wins as when Russia loses)

What China might be worried about is the risk of Russia collapsing and fragmenting if they lose
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Hu? What attention is there left to turn away from Ukraine?

Admitting this during a meeting with the EU has to be an invitation to make a deal. The Chinese aren't really known for sharing information like this. It really sounds like to me that they want to break up with russia with this. I'm sure the Chinese citizens are happier with western goods than Ladas, turnips, diesel, vast bleak landscapes and all the other russian stereotypes you can think of.
China is having some economic issues. Hitching themselves to a broke ass russia ain't going to solve that. They are looking for an off ramp. This is good news, I'm sure of it.

There's a lot of US troops and assets in Europe.

That's not answering my question at all. They obviously aren't supporting Ukraine.

Like handing a baby a candy, Zelenskys phone call with trump went pretty well.

Trump says Putin 'wants to keep killing people,' signals US may send Patriots to Ukraine
Trump pledges continued support for Ukraine after Zelenskyy call

I think more world leaders are learning the Art of the Deal - Toddler Edition. Trump is so predictable and immature, and this time I sure as hell ain't complaining. Putin lost his game this round.

Trump is so easily influenced he parrots the last person to talk to him, for Zelensky's sake I hope Trump signs those orders to ship weapons before he talks to the next pro-Russia guy who will make him, yet again, do a complete 180.

Yeah, turns out Hegseth is responsible for stopping the deliveries that are just sitting in Poland, instead if saving lives in Ukraine.

Trump will change his mind soon enough, per orders from his overlords in Kremlin.

Former Russian minister of Transport shoots himself just hours after being fired by Putin. Weird how these things just happen.

Russian transport minister fired by Putin reportedly shoots himself dead
Russia's former Transport Minister Roman Starovoit shot himself dead in Odintsovo following his dismissal by President Vladimir Putin on July 7, the pro-government newspaper Izvestia reported, citing unnamed sources.

Starovoit's ouster came after nearly 500 flights were grounded at major Russian airports on July 5–6 due to security threats from Ukrainian drone attacks.

The following day, an explosion aboard the Eco Wizard tanker at the Ust-Luga port in Leningrad Oblast triggered an ammonia leak, adding to the crisis engulfing Russia's transportation sector.

Taiwan. China would be more than happy for Europe and US be too busy in European continent while they go forth with their stated goal of conquering Taiwan. I wouldn't be surprised if China was urging Russia behind the door to start some "low tension conflict" or "hybrid operation" within NATO country to erode the believability of the alliance and cause infighting and strife while they go forth with their own expansionist plans.
