I haven't watched the CCTV but apparently you could see the firefighters arrive and then promptly depart.

Apparently they now have access to the site to deal with the fire after Ukrainian forces at the plant surrendered.

So the firefighters did arrive and then leave because the scene obviously wasn't safe. People aren't going to immediately stop shooting at one another, some kind of ceasefire and security must be brokered. Once that happened the firefighters were allowed on scene.

Time is not exactly on Putin's side either. The more Ukrainians hold on the better their position will be in the inevitable serious peace talks.

It could mean getting forced into lighter terms, preserving country integrity (except for Crimea and Donbass - these are gone, really), preserving the government and the army and not becoming a vassal state with puppet government.

All in all - even Putin wants a settlement and an out and what he does now is attempt to grab the most he can, so he can dictate better terms and in turn sell it at home as Russia stronk and not look completely ridiculous about it.

Also if for some reason there was a threat of the power plant melting down, then Yes Europe should declare war on Russia and move into Ukraine. Power plant is offline I heard, which means just spilled waste, not a full meltdown.

I don't agree with 90% of this but the reason he does not surrender is because Ukraine has its right to sovereignty. You don't just rollover because someone threatens you. You have no sovereignty if you are not willing to defend it.

I think Zelensky has made his peace and willing to accept his responsibilities as the leader of his country. That means his duty is to secure the best future for his country even in unfavorable circumstances. They are defending their home.

As stated, the law is longer Ukraine holds out, the better they will be at the negotiating table.

If Russia stops fighting, the war ends. If Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ends. And nevermind the people from across Europe flooding towards Ukraine volunteering to help them fight or other nations shipping weaponry to the Ukrainians.

ANd yes, if Putin causes a nuclear 'accident', it will affect all of Europe. Ukraine would get the worst of it but the nuclear fallout/radioactive material would be scattered all over Europe and the world by wind currents in the upper atmosphere, just like with Chernobyl and Fukushima.
