Discover, and ironically, American Express haven't said no yet that I'm aware of.

Because they saw the opportunity of them effectively posing with the Ukrainian president as being potential for personal political gains.

"look at how I'm combatting Russian tyranny! By posing with the embattled Ukrainian president! Remember, vote republican to maintain a tough stance on Russia"

That's 100% what they were going for.

That they effectively ignored pleas to not share the photos doesn't really surprise me. I'd be more surprised if they were actually paying attention in any meaningful way and had even heard that part, and even if they did they were probably thinking "eh who cares what this foreigner thinks, this'll look great for my publicity!"

That sounds like the same moral/ethical stance all the other companies are taking. I don't see a lot of "none will trust the west conspiracy" from those.
It seems Russian issued cards still work in Russia though so they're not completely withdrawing.

Not sure if posted, but it seems the Belorussian military didn't invade Ukraine in numbers when they were supposed to because the military from Top to bottom is outright refusing to get involved. Some have even ran away (possibly defected)

I probably shouldn't have quoted that headline verbatim when it's not precise.

I hope this is true. It would surprise me a little if Belarus had been resisting from the start, less so if they've changed their mind after things started falling apart.

To sanction a country is to bring hardship to its people - Putin's people, and they may revolt. Cut only Putin's visa and he'll use his secretary's.

It's less surprising when you remember Lukashenko is effectively a puppet that has been kept in power against the wishes of the Belarusian people (with Russian help); him and those adjacent to him might be Putain's bum chums, but that's a veneer.

Which makes the claim (or at least what I viewed the claim to be) not true.

Also, it's possible that the Belarusian troops were better informed about the quality of the Russian troops that they were going to be supporting at the outset.

It's like ducking out of sight when the teams are being picked and the current picker has chosen all the worst players so far.

There's a hilarious kabuki play to be made out of this sequence of events. If only we didn't have to live through them in real time.

What strikes me as odd but yet not odd is that Putlers actions just drive Finlands and Sweden a bit more to joining NATO.
Make no mistake the opinions are far from that happening but a erratic lunatic in control of vast armed forces next door is a pretty good talking point.

And NATO threatening Russia (odd since its a defensive pact) is one of his, in his book, strongest talking points.
Russia is doomed as it always has been historically

The Great Emu War was (mostly) harmless nonsense.

This, however, is a blunder on the scale of Tsushima.
