Anecdotal evidence, but I have held a NATO laptop in my hands because of a mixup in airport. Guess what - no stickers screaming NATOOOO on it. How do I know it was NATO's? Because I got in touch with the person responsible for fixing the mixup by having our supplier contact manufacturer who found the owner via serial number, then sending the laptop to one of the actual NATO HQ's and receiving ours back from them.
And they sure as shit won't use something that old in 2022, even if simply because that thing has a real risk of just dying in the field from HDD or capacitor failure.

BBC is reporting that Russia is recruiting Syrian mercenaries to take part in urban warfare.
Russia: "We're here to denazify Ukraine"
Also Russia: "We're gonna hold public executions to make the people get in line"
Russia: "We're here to protect people"
Also Russia: *bombs a few schools, threatens to blow up a nuclear power plant*
Russia: "We're going to crush the Ukraine!"
Also Russia: "Uh guys . . . where's the nearest gas station?"
Putin khuylo
He will be in good company with Americans saying this is all to blame on the US and we forced Russia to do this mess.

Like John Trapper..
UK MoD Intel is that Russia has made minimal gains over the past 48 hours, bogged down by resistance and logistical problems but they are undertaking heavy fire against Ukrainian cities with air and artillery.
One thing I am wondering about is why do regular people care so much about this particular war that is happening now. Sure I consider it the most crucial event in the last 30 years and the end of the post-WW2 international order, or at least a major shake up of that order, but the average joe doesn't understand let alone appreciate that fact.
So why is it that Ukraine's plight has captured the hearts of minds in a way no conflict in recent memory has? Even more then brutal ones like Checnya and Syria where Russia was/is part of did. Sure it makes sense for people in Poland, Romania and other eastern countries to care, since it affects us directly ( millions of refugees with a poor vaccination number is going to be a nightmare ), but West Europe? The US?
Is it simply because Ukrainians are European and we couldn't care less if muslims/brown people are the ones dying? It's not the media attention since they focused HEAVILY on many conflicts over the years that got quite brutal but people didn't care as much then.

That's not a good enough explanation, they've done horrid shit before in other wars ( Chechnya, Georgia, Syria ). Hell they've done things in Chechnya AND Syria that make what they are doing in Ukraine right seem nice: Specifically Grozny and starvation tactics in urban areas in Syria.
