It explains it in the article. This is basically an award for being dead. And they know roughly were the numbers started at prior to the invasion.

Dying for your country is not worthy of a medal?

If you read the article that is what the medal in question is generally for. They also tracked the serial numbers for previous wars.

Russian media get in a shouting match on state tv over the failures in Ukraine.

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/russia...res-in-ukraine

In addition some were saying the Russian military would have to run Ukraine for 2 generations to 're-educate' the population.

The article shows evidence that a range of nearly 5000 (at least) were issued on the same day. It also shows that a number only about 750 before the first one they have evidence for was issued all the way back in 2015.

Scratch that, I'd prefer not to remember either one.

Of course the original. Which was still quite jingoistic and "America, Fuck Yeah!", but an enjoyable film besides.

But them continuing to fight doesn't make any of those latter points "less bad." More Russians will continue to die, their economy will continue to crumble, more of their equipment will be destroyed or seized, and their international reputation will only continue to spiral downwards.

It seems Putin has fallen into the cost-sunk fallacy. Let's see how long the rest of Russia keeps following that line.
The thing is that if Putin pulls out now it would likely be a mortal blow to his grip on power.

It wouldn't sit well with the Russian people that Putin trashed their economy, turned Russia into an international pariah and got thousands of Russian troops killed or maimed for nothing because Tzar Putin got high on his own supply.

So yeah, he is in a sunk cost fallacy now and it is just going to keep getting worse for Russia.

Yeah, but the thing is, this is only source of info so far. I would have to see at least 2 more sources saying same or similar thing.
Numbers on medals can be easy photoshoped. Heck whole story can be made up.
You have to be very skeptical in this war, as i have seem a lot of fake shit from bouth sides.
    Don't sweat the details!!!

It was supposed to be an antiwar movie ... then John Milius asked Alexander Haig to help him rewrite it.

I think the point was that there is nothing stopping Russia from stopping hostilities. Ukraine isn't interested in conquering Russia....they just want the Russians to go home and stay there.

    USSR still had innovation.

"Free flow" is just liberal fetish used to drain periphery of talent. "Ability to concentrate funding and brainpower" is what you need for innovation; that modern West used liberal approaches for it is just one of the ways.

That's mainly because you guys still think your system is better than that of a liberal democracy.
Believing that "liberal democracy works for everyone" while seeing every failure of liberal democracy in modern world as well as countries "backsliding" from it (like Poland and Hungary) is strange.

It is best to be non-dogmatic and go with what actually works in practice rather then in theory.

Ah yes, when you're done with being a Crypto-Nazi and you just go full Nazi. It will take 2 generations of ethnic cleansing to put down those uppity Cossacks and to convince them they were Russian all along...even if we have to kill every single one in the process.

I don't agree though. I think your cynicism is misguided. There's nothing I hate more than cynicism.
