I suppose, in true Kremlin way, you can call unjustified murder of ukrainians, military and civilians alike as demilitarization. A pity for russians though that they are killing themselves vastly more efficiently, literally and figuratively.

Russia is losing. Ukraine is not. Whether Ukraine is winning by a small amount, or going for the big win, is still an ongoing judgement. Vast unjust destruction of the nation is happening, but while Russia can deal with their own deserved fate, on their own, and effectively devolving into North Korea, Ukraine will get all the help it needs to rebuild.

So some Russian Soldiers decided to have a bit of a joy ride around Chernobyl's Red Forest without protective equipment.

Now a history lesson: The Red Forest got its name when the entire area of pine trees was blasted by debris from the reactor explosion, causing all the trees to die and take on a reddish color from absorbing the ensuing fallout. And, to this day, radioactive materials still permeate the area and make it exceedingly dangerous to enter without proper equipment. And a bunch of whack-a-doos decided to ride through it, unprotected, and breathing in contaminated dust and soil.

Though that all aside, this part of the article is what really gets me:

Specialists from the Russian military who are trained in dealing with radiation did not arrive at the site until about a week after Russian troops arrived, the workers said. They said the Russian specialists did not wear protective gear either.

One of the employees said he had spoken to some of the rank-and-file Russian soldiers at the plant.

"When they were asked if they knew about the 1986 catastrophe, the explosion of the fourth block (of the Chernobyl plant), they did not have a clue. They had no idea what kind of a facility they were at," he said.

"We talked to regular soldiers. All we heard from them was 'It's critically important infrastructure'. That was it," the man said.

I edited a word I used incorrectly. But Ukraine will get back, Russia however can enjoy their isolation and hopefully long, very long sanctions.

So...are they ACTUALLY scaling down operations around Kyiv, or is this more of a, "We can't keep the siege up due to supply issues so we'll just announce that we're scaling them back instead of just scaling them back because we ran out of things that blow up."?

Pretty much that.

They are having a lot of trouble with supplies, which is leading to Ukraine forces taking back areas around Kyiv. They could potentially lose a lot of troops and material if their supply lines get cut off.

At this point, they need to show some progress, or the whole operation will start falling apart. They've stretched themselves too much and are not able to keep that many fronts going for this long.

The likely scenario is to move all the resources towards Mariupol to finally take it, whatever left of it that will be.

But the problem is that means they will loose a lot of ground elsewhere, which they will have to retake a second time, but without the resources they initially had. That will probably not happen. Imagine all the soldiers lost for nothing...

My feeling is they want to have as much leverage as possible for negotiating something, with at least getting some land grab in the East and South, to bridge Crimea with Russia on the coast. Hence why they need to put everything they have into taking Mariupol as quickly as possible, because they can't keep it up for much longer.

Well, as I expected whole denazification and demilitarization demands were dropped entirely, told you it was just bullshit demands for internal consumption only.

Same goes for Ukraine's "neutral" status - as I said it was easy for them to agree to that, because nobody rushed to invite them to NATO anyway. Crimea - also expected, practically Ukraine offers to kick the can on it for 15 years, because there is no way will get it back and neither they can sell giving it up entirely at home.

So as expected the real sticking point will be DNR/LNR. Wonder what will be the deal there.

It would be a violation if the average user could, I wouldn't call it a violation if I contacted the call center for my cellphone provider and they were able to see which number I was calling from.

Having someone who's job it is to moderate an area being able to tell where a person is connecting from when there is an overt global campaign from a nation to lie and spread disinformation online wouldn't be out of line.

Hell, even without Russia's crap, it would make it easier to identify alts when the average user doesn't know enough to change it and think just logging in a new account is enough (And if the moderators can't check such stuff, it really can be without other measures in place to check for that).

Guess we'll have more the reason to punish Russia to oblivion for it. We all know they won't submit for war crime tribunals, they won't pay any reparations unless we literally storm Moscow (we won't). So to me they simply should be isolated and cut off all trade and other agreements (that they do not follow anyway).

I'm not a particle-physicist, though from cursory online readings: If they breathed any radioactive materials in, it's possible they will continue to be exposed for the rest of their natural existence as the contaminants stick inside their lungs or guts, then contaminate where-ever they happen to be buried for a couple hundred thousand more years.

Both directly, as in all the troops and equipment that are lost for nothing in a unwinnable war.

But also indirectly, by demonstrating how bad all their hardware truly is. They are demonstrating how poorly maintained, and outdated their stuff is, and how to defeat them. And showing a total lack of leadership and command within their army.

They are showing the world how overestimated their army is, and will have lost all credibility.

Even nuclear threats are being laughed at. I'd be surprised if 25% of their nukes would even launch! And that's if the warheads are even still there and have not been sold along the way.

Won't happen for next 15 years apparently, if we are to believe Podolyak. Interesting question is, will Russia eat full sanctions that entire time? USSR started cracking before 40 years of Cold War passed, and Russia is not even close to USSR. Crimea being economically net negative won't help either.
