Get this, boy, I was born in what's now Ukraine and lived there for a good chunk of my life. Denying there is a common ground, both historically and culturally between Russia and Ukraine is like being a frikkin' flat-earther denying the obvious.

You say "history", but the history is that Ukraine was part of Russian Empire one way or another for hundreds of years with all the mutual mixing up that was going on while at it. Ukraine has its historical national heroes, literature classics and is unique in many ways, just like every ex-Soviet republic has. But at the same time, it is still an ex-Soviet republic with all the ties, bells, whistles and mutual history/heritage - a fact that is not just going to disappear all that soon.

Ukraine as is now is on a path to discover and manifest its national identity, a path undertaking for a few decades now and it's not just some on/off switch there, it's a process. And this war, by the way, is a part of this process.

Boy did you skip Holodomor in your supposed ukrainian upbringing education ? Do list all the good stuff that happened to ukrainians during soviet times instead of derailing with things I never said.

If you have a good understanding of probability then you should be willing to bet real life money on your predictions. How about you predict the use of nukes/WMDs on civilian population centers and I'll predict that won't happen in the next 6 months. Is this reasonable?

There's a couple of things we see about the Russians after their withdrawals.

1. The Ukrainians calling them "orcs" has been oddly fitting. Tho how a supposedly competent army ended up looking and behaving the way the Russians have been speaks volumes about just how poorly trained, ill disciplined and poorly supplied and commanded they are.

2. It's clear they don't see themselves as "liberators" either anymore. They've given up on the pretense of being there to help. The Ukrainian resistance beat that delusion out of them by now. That's why they've been warcriming left and right.

And note, this is how they act and the resistance they are dealing with in the supposedly pro Russian side of the country.

I'm pretty sure by this junction the Russians would be hard pressed to find people inside Ukraine who would want to be Russian. Even among Russian speakers.
