And apparently Germany has been picking up some of their Russian chatter about killing civilians.
Putin's spokesorc, when asked if Russia had lost thousands of dead said 'Yes, we have suffered significant losses '. And then went on to try and justify it all again.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.
According to a Finnish newspaper they will apply for NATO membership on the 14th.

And the Finnish FM has said security guarantees have been made for during the approval process, just in case Russia gets uppity.

The failure of the UN is mostly because of the permanent members of the security council which include the US and UK and not because you have shitty countries.
And non of the current members will ever do anything to reduce the power of the Security Council in the fear that they will be effected in some ways.

Another major difference which is just less racial is that for the EU Ukraine is within our borders. Unlike lets say Syria you don't have a massive buffer between Syria and Europe that will be forced to take millions of refugees (turkey).
And pre war Ukraine has allot more citizens then pre war Syria so potentially the refugee crisis because of this war will be double in raw numbers and 100 times worse in what we (europe) have to take in. Right-wingers complained about taking in a dozen Syrian refugees well soon you could potentially have millions.
Also if we do get a refugee crisis then don't be shocked that just because the refugees in this case are white Christians that they won't be received with open arms. Right now it's still not in huge massive numbers.

The FBI silently removed Russian malware to thwart global cyberattacks
Nicely done.Attorney General Merrick B. Garland has revealed that the United States secretly removed malware from computer networks around the world over the past few weeks to pre-empt Russian cyberattacks. As The New York Times reports, Garland's announcement comes shortly after the White House warned companies that Russia could attack critical infrastructure in the country, such as financial institutions and the electric grid. Apparently, the malware the US removed enabled the intelligence arm of the Russian military called the GRU to create botnets out of the infected computer networks.
According to the Justice Department, the malware was designed to infect firewalls and made the compromised networks part of a botnet called Cyclops Blink. It's controlled by Sandworm, a notorious group that the US government had previously connected to the GRU. Cyclops Blink is Sandworm's latest known botnet, and it only came to light back in February. It's still unclear what Russia was planning to do with the hijacked computers, but botnets are typically used to perform large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, as well as to send spam and to compromise sensitive information.
In its press release, the DOJ said the FBI notified owners of infected devices in the US before Cyclops Blink was identified in February 23rd. It also notified companies outside the country through local law enforcement partners. However, US authorities didn't want to wait to find out what the botnet would be used for.
The Justice Department and the FBI obtained secret court orders in the US and secured the help of governments worldwide to quietly remove the malware from infected devices. Those court orders even gave them the power to remotely remove the malware from American companies' networks without their knowledge. After the feds disinfected the compromised machines, they also closed the external management ports Sandworm was using for access.
Over the past months, the Biden administration has been exposing as much intelligence on Russia as possible without giving away its actions to catch Putin off guard. This disclosure is just its latest effort to send a message to the Russian president. The fact that Sandworm infiltrated networks around the world to create a botnet just shows, however, that there's a cyber warfare going on that might end up affecting countries other than Ukraine. If you'll recall, a major cyberattack took down Ukraine's government websites before the Russian invasion of the country began. Ukraine's government, as well as US and UK authorities, blamed the attacks on the GRU.
It is massive numbers: We have 4.3 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe as we speak in 1 month and a half. In contrast Syria was 6 million total.
I expect over 10 million especially if Russia starts gaining massive swathes of territory in the East.
There are several reasons I think why Europe has been so welcoming. Yes there is a significant racial and cultural element but it's also due to the nature of the war: Syria is a civil war, and the sentiment is that if the Arabs want to kill each other over who rules the country then it's not our concern to help them, and very few people believe in the notion the rebels would ever create a western style democracy. So why should we care is a view.
In contrast Ukraine is a European nation, a broken corrupt oligarchy sure but with actual legitimate elections and democracy in a lot of ways, that has been invaded by a Great Power who intends to conquer them or force them to capitulate their sovereignty in some ways. So people have genuine sympathy for the people of Ukraine due to that.
Also the vast majority of refugees are women, many with children, in contrast to most other refugee crises where there quite a lot of men, which isn't the case here given that men can't leave Ukraine.

"Life is one long series of problems to solve. The more you solve, the better a man you become.... Tribulations spawn in life and over and over again we must stand our ground and face them."
And most of them are in Poland and a bit more spread out.
But now imagine double or even triple that number and start talking years instead of weeks.
Currently the war and all of the things are still fresh but like with most stories things people get numb to horror stories and in a year or so humans are less forgiven.
Just saying, don't be shocked when people stop being welcoming.
The latest Nazi crime committed by the Ukrainians according to the Russian foreign ministry - appropriating the recipe for bortsch. I kid you not.

It's about to sound like a case of colic broke out. Calling it an invasion of privacy, they should have been warned about this quiet super secret operation that would tip off their friends, people saying it's their choice to have an infected computer and the US should just have a betterer computer so it wasn't infected.
The same people who responded to the email from Nortin Antivirus, called the number, paid the 300 bucks to download the "fix" for the "security issue", and are now infested multiple viruses on multiple levels. Ignoring the fact they never used Norton Antivirus, nor Nortin...

Was their version of bortsch that bad? NATO and US funded kitchens?
