I am well aware of what Yuppie is, as one would hope you'd have noticed if you bothered to read the post you're responding to.

That was a comment more on the general plausibility of such happening in war. We haven't seen any evidence of that yet, but it certainly isn't outside the realm of plausibility as the humanitarian situation grows more desperate and people literally starve to death.

after that incident two days ago of a Russian soldier taping himself raping a toddler, then posting it to social media and bragging about it like a moron, where he was then promptly detained, there is no doubt my mind the Russian army finds the evils they commit fun or empowering. March 1st: Watch for Mariupol-Kharkiv line. If they manage to take both cities, they'll do a line rush from each cutting off and entrapping thousands of highly trained and skilled fighters.

March 5th: Russia has captured Kherson and will soon capture Mariupol.

March 11th: Mariupol is slowly being taken over and Volnovaha is gone. This means that part of the invading forces are free to start moving up north, with more troops available when Mariupol falls (and it will fall, just a matter of time).

March 18th: take whatever is left of Mariupol, dig in and negotiate from position of relative strength. Realistically he can get that in a week or two

I don't think anyone expected Mariupol to hold out this long. Not even the experts. But it has chewed up a lot of time, resources and units for the Russians.

Can't find any confirmation yet, but the Ukrainian authorities are still investigating the attack in Mariupol, however they say preliminary data shows it could have been White Phosphorous, nasty stuff but not a chemical weapon. Inhalation of the smoke does affect the airways, and prolonged exposure is not recommended.
