On the Moskva, pretty big if true. Russia boasted it has so much air defence it couldn't be hit. Crew of around 510 as well.

Reportedly sending out multiple distress calls via Morse and cipher and some are reporting you can listen to the Morse messages.

US is sending a Blackhawk to the location so we'll get some sort of confirmation soon.

Not sure how Moscow would spin the fact their flagship and 500 crew got taken down if true.

When asked to produce the OSCE reports he was using as some sort of justification for Russia actions he didn't reply again. Reports of Russia targeting civilians and civilian targets, like hospitals had been confirmed and had been for a good number of days by that stage, so just like they did in Syria,

I have difficulty seeing how this sort of army could ever hope to defeat a force that it doesn't hopelessly outclass. I'm sure the higher-ups of the military are aware of those failings, as they really okay with most of their soldiers being so useless? The idea of cannon fodder doesn't seem very useful in modern warfare, especially when you pay so much for such a pathetic result.

Yeah, I get that said higher-ups are hardly better RE the corruption. But I'd had thought that at least some would still be smart enough to know there has to be a limit to the nonsense. I watched it back in the day and it shows what's going on in many post-Soviet republics well, including Russia and Ukraine.


So the story of the episode goes that roads in Kiev are full of potholes and need to be fixed, so Zelensky makes a meeting with Minister of Infrastructure and demands explanations.

Fast forward, said minister hammers head of Ukravtodor (Ukraine Auto Roads) wtf is this, this goes down to the one under him and then one under that one with threats that they will get rolled into asphalt unless it's fixed. They in turn report back that to fix it they need x amount of time and y amount of money, with sum and time rising exponentially as levels go up (because you do need to steal your share of course).

Basically - it's the same shit here with these forces. Moscow gave the money, it's just on the way it got "siphoned" away on various levels, but of course reported back as invested into the whole thing.

So that is how it works.

TLDR: It's layers of corruption, with every step down to low-middle rank officers taking their cut and reporting job done. With all the layers having interest to report things better than they really are, a compounding lie to keep the scheme going.

And they got away with it too for a few decades, you can bet many of them did not even think the time would come to actually get to work.

Russia is saying a fire caused an ammunition explosion and that all crew were evacuated. Somehow I doubt they got everyone off at night in a storm after an internal explosion.

Russia made no mention of a missile attack, which means no doubt they'll claim it was an accident. No need to pay the families of dead crew in that case.

That's part of the reason why Ukrainians voted him in, because the whole show is a satire on all the issues plaguing Ukraine and people voted for a guy who clearly understands the plight of the people. After all you can't do satire if it does not resonate with the public and that show strikes right in the heart of it.

And yes it is wild, of course he did not imagine this would turn out that way. The real deal is obviously much more complex as well.

Brilliant show all in all, I'm just not sure it will translate well to Western audience. For me it was hilarious because I understand it, having lived there half my life.

Russian military is known to be hilariously corrupt and this shit came back to bite them in the ass.

Ukrainian one also has a lot of troubles, even now there are reports of some aid being sold off by various shady officials. I can only imagine that at least some part of weapons delivered goes to people who should not have their hands on it.

What helped Ukraine is that for them the shit because very real 8 years ago, where as for Russia shit became real only now.
