    There certainly are similarities.
not to mention that Taiwan has been constantly citing Ukraine as an example for more aid, and territorial disputes in Asia becoming fiercer, America strengthening its alliances with Japan.

People here claimed before this war Ukraine was just a blip on the radar and no one would give a shit what happens. But the conflict is evidently changing the world, far past just Ukraine's borders.

no one assumed anyone besides Ukraine would get involved in a world conflict. It was indeed just brushed off as a "corrupt little state." No one. No one assumed Russia was going to become a pariah state and threat to global security through their food blockade and acts of terror.

Many things everyone brushed off except probably just a few aware of the threat Russia posed. I mean, even the invasion of Ukraine? People thought it was just bluster and Russia was rattling the saber earlier this year.

Even without US assistance, Taiwan will be challenging for China. It is a fortress built over a period of seven decades.

Ukraine was the proving ground for the effectiveness of Javelins and similar anti-tank weapons against Russian tanks. In the event of an attack, Taiwan will be the testing ground for US made Patriot, Harpoon and Stinger missiles, and the domestic variations of the missiles, against Chinese ships and aircrafts. By last count Taiwan has over 800 US made Patriot missiles plus another 2,000 of the domestically manufactured Skybolt missiles. Around 500 US made Harpoon missiles and unknown quantities of HF-1 and HF-2.

In Ukraine the Russian was free to pound on Mariupol without fear of similar retaliation against their cities. It is a different story for China. All of China’s major coastal cities are within range of Taiwan mid-range cruise missiles which the country has been stockpiling for the last 10 years. Taiwan started mass production of their long-range HF-IIE early 2021. It has a range of 750 miles which will reach deep into Central China. Beijing is a target.

What happens with Taiwan will hinge on whether Ukraine holds out or even wins against Russia's onslaught.

As of late it's not looking too optimistic on that front.

Taiwan produces semiconductors and not many countrys will be happy if they get attacked. China survives on trade and if they attacked, their belt road will get destroyed.
    Don't sweat the details!!!

Well on the last note of China for now: What I meant by that is China feeling emboldened or demoralized by Russia's victory or loss to commit to an invasion of Taiwan. That's not decided yet so it's whatever besides the (for now) empty threats.

Besides that, the media prefers to underscore any victories Russia has claimed on the war front in Ukraine due to them being evil. Right now they're not doing that bad and have achieved some significant wins like with Donbas and the steel plant. As Zelensky himself has stated, it's not some one-sided curbstomp battle like social media has made it out to be. It is very much an uncertain struggle.

I think the nukes lurking in the background are a contributing factor to the uncertainty of Ukraine's victory in this conflict. At this point, people are convinced Russia is bluffing and don't take those nuclear threats all that seriously.

But if Ukraine ever reaches a point where they are about to win and kick Russia off their lands humiliated...who knows? It's already evident the Russians are at the least desperate from their constant demands and threats to the West to stop supplying conventional weapons to Ukraine.

There's no "win" in Donbas, and the clearing of Azovstal was not a "significant" one, considering the relative losses that Russia incurred to do so.

Why are you vomiting up Russian propaganda, YUP?

That's not desperation, boyo. And there's a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way between making vague threats and actually following through on a specific attack.

I don't consider the losses Russia incurs to achieve their wins. They don't give a shit either from their preferred tactics.

If they conquered Ukraine eventually throwing millions of lives away at the meat grinder, that is still a (bloodied) victory. That is war.

Well, gee, YUP... if they don't consider Russian casualties to be meaningful, then I guess they'll never feel "backed into a corner" and you'll never get those nuclear fireworks you've been fangirling for all this time.

How will you cope with your disappointment?

Sadly, yes. His view is the West shouldn't embarass Putin and make Ukraine give up land to stop the war.
