I'm sure they'll stamp every ex-Soviet/Russian Empire territories independence as illegal.

Where the fun begins is when they start their Special Military Operations in an EU&NATO country.

Russia has shown how it's a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic, but there is no way in hell they are that special. Especially not after the absolute disaster that is this invasion in Ukraine.

But I get you. The complete humiliation would be fun.

This is just Russia malding over Lithuania stating Russia is supporting and perpetrating terrorism in Ukraine.

Not good - Putin's separatist puppets have sentence 2 Britons and a Moroccan to death for being 'mercenaries', despite the fact they had legally joined the Ukrainian military.

So that's how russia is going to get past the moratorium on the death penalty in russia, unless of course they'll try to use this as leverage.

The separatist regions are technically not Russia. Russia recognized their independence (de-facto Russian ruled) but hasn't yet officially annexed them. So they can just say "Russian law doesn't apply".

Russian military equipment is old, theres alot of corruption, morale in army is low but in the end they still attack and killing innocent people and ruining more cities and villages especially on territories near Russian border where they have aircraft support. I think people are getting too optimistic about the whole situation while in reality this could go on for another months.

    …to what end, though?

Russia gains territory as fast as it loses it. “If we blow up enough stuff, Ukraine will give us what we want” hasn’t worked so far and Ukrainian resolve seems to be pretty solid, whereas Russia’s resolve… along with its economy, international standing, supply lines and equipment… seem to be actively faltering.

Ukraine really just has to keep on not losing. They’re receiving constant influxes of new equipment and training that blows Russia’s out of the water (literally in some cases.) Meanwhile, Russia’s situation keeps worsening… and unlike Ukraine, who has a reason to fight… what reason does Russia have to go on?

If they go through with it, Ukraine should just start executing all non-uniformed saboteurs they've caught.

Clearly that just means Russia has to keep on blowing up more stuff. It'll work eventually! /s

Putin is now comparing himself to Peter the Great. You know, the guy who conquered the Baltics by claiming they were rightful Russian and then sacrificed thousands of peasants building a city to himself.

He has also cancelled the yearly telecast marathon phone in session where 'ordinary' Russian citizens ask Putin questions (read: carefully scripted questions) and he answers them. Talk is that it was likely due to hostile questions about the war being sent in, but given how scripted it is, that seems unlikely. Maybe covering up his illness?

Attempting to take land by force for Russia is about where the parallels to Peter stops for Putler, unfortunately for him.

Peter did that through a major northern European coalition against Sweden involving Poland-Lithuanian Commonwealth/Prussia/Saxony/Denmark-Norway in addition to Russia at the time, and it still took them damn near 20 years of war to conclude matters.
