Was it wrong for me to check which current GOP primary winners had their picture taken with him?
I think that part of the problem that people who are sympathetic to the right have is that these cases are used to frame all members of the GOP as being child predators (or child predator adjacent). Essentially, they see the attacks on the GOP (i.e.: that they are child predators) as a personal attack (i.e.: if you support the GOP, you are either a child predator or support child predators). I think it's obviously fair to say that the GOP is unusually protective of their members, shielding them from almost any criticism, and it is deeply frustrating for Democrats, Leftists, or anyone with an ounce of integrity.
That said, it is always a little weird how American conservatives are so touchy about these things, when they frequently levy claims of supporting or defending child sex offenders against their opponents.
Sylvanas didn't even win the popular vote, she was elected by an indirect election of representatives. #NotMyWarchief
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.
Equality and Justice, that is how you have peace and a society that benefits all.
And then go on a tour expressing his remorse for his actions while pocketing a ton of donations to help him in his "recovery" and probably then get a job on Fox or OAN as a talking head who expounds on how God led him away from iniquity while he was in prison and Republicans will buy it hook, line, and sinker.
I have been told I'm a little cynical though.
Oh I got that part, no question. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss a headline or something.
If the guilty verdict stands, he might as well do as you suggest. Once you spend XXX years in jail for child pornography, you really have two choices.
a) vanish.
b) go weeping on church TV, admit you have a problem, and start a GoFuckSomeKids GoFundMe for donations for people like you who have been led astray by...I guess make something up here, rap music maybe...to "redeem" yourself.
I mean, you're only cynical because you see that happening.
in most state those kinds of charges are excluded from good behavior time off or accelerated parole
Arkansas has some good time off allowances that could get you off at 50% but it looks like his kind of offences might not qualify at all or at best 1/3 off.
Too tired to look at what his charges were finalized as. :P

Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!
I can't find any good articles that say anything one way or the other. I will say, I did find this bad one that suggests that, because this is a federal conviction, "good behavior" is not going to be all that much.
Part of "good behavior" for a sex offender -- the prosecutors went out of their way to point out this is a likely serial offender -- almost certainly involves going to counselling. Duggar continues to claim innocence and therefore likely won't go. That's on him.
Oh, and I'm sure the guilty verdict and sentence are both being appealed.

I kind of doubt it. Proven kiddy-diddling is one of the few remaining things that will turn a GOP voter off a candidate.
And yes, that "proven" qualifier is important. "All-but-gauranteed-but-it-was-never-proven-in-a-court-of-law" isn't enough.
Plus, nobody is going to care about this schmuck in 12 years.

I don't know Matt Gaetz still has a job and Roy Moore almost won his senate seat with GOP backing. I think the only red line in the GOP is being gay or rumored to be, it's what got Madison Cawthorne in the end. Liz Cheney getting her seat just shows how powerful her father is otherwise she had no shot.
