Just finished Morning Star by Pierce Brown. I read slowly currently so it took me awhile, but I loved this series very much. Not sure what I'm going to read next, though I am going through Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim graphic novels since I was able to get Kindle Unlimited for free for three months.

i've just been listening to manhua's on youtube (chinese manga) some are over 8 hours long, and audiobooks on youtube...haven't read anything in a while now, just listening to em while working because music started getting to old.
Still I cry, tears like pouring rain, Innocent is my lurid pain.

Reading "The Self-Driven Child". I have two small kids at home and I really want to raise them to be self sufficient. Lots of pretty good brain science and advice. The idea of always giving people options and letting them choose is affecting me at work. Started giving people choices and the results are interesting. Anyone have any good child raising book recommendations?

So after two other books I finally picked Red Rising up again and finished it. Gotta say it's like "streets 1:12 the book", made me cheer for violence.

I saw all the twists from a mile away, but it's not at all "booh predictable" but rather all the characters and their motivations are so well written that twists are not really twists.

Even the last big one, I had no doubt at all that Mustang would come through. Not only did she have personal reasons in her love for Darrow, but even looking out for herself foremost... betraying Darrow does not win her the year either, she would be second after Jackal showing any drafter she chooses nepotism over merit. Much higher chances getting a good apprenticeship on her merits as second in command for Darrow.

I enjoyed that, books two and three are already on my reader.

Just read the first two red rising books, red rising and golden son.

Really enjoyed them, just easy to read, fun, page turners. Like how the author has separated people out into different colours from the start and I reckon at the end of the six they will be one community or it could end really badly.

The second book was a lot better but it was, for all intents and purposes, the same book as the first.

About 100 pages into Hollywood spiral, it's the second book by the author of apathy and other small victories. Apathy is one of the funniest books I've ever read, laugh out loud. I can't decide with Hollywood whether he's moved too far from the humour or the humour just isn't hitting, which is a shame, apathy was hilarious.

    Hopefully it improves

Started up Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison. My wife introduced me to The Hollows series and I've enjoyed it pretty well, but I took a good break from the series. Figured I'm ready to read some again.

I read It Ends With Us because of the movie. The book and movie both sucked.

This book (and movie) are aimed at a different type of woman than me. I could not relate to this character in the least. I thought she was essentially an alien.

Just to follow up on this. Just finished it. This one was much better than the last couple of books. I have enjoyed the series, but I’m getting to a point where I’d like it to end. It’s fallen into the trap of a lot of media I’ve seen/read lately where the protagonist needs to get stronger to overcome a powerful foe, so we get a stronger antagonist next, just for the protagonist to get stronger, and on and on, to the point people should just be wiping out planets with the blink of an eye.
Still, I did enjoy this last one quite a bit. This one comprised of the main story, which had a pretty well written, heartfelt ending; but was followed up with some short story sections to cover a major time frame. The segments themselves were decent, but could have just been a completely separate book and feel a little less jarring. Some of them actually could have used more focus as they were genuinely interesting.

I began listening to the Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks on a recommendation from a friend. I was told they were breezy, fun books for gamer types. Which it is, true enough.

However, the vocal performance of the audiobooks is fucking excellent! It's way better than the material itself. It takes a few hours to get going but Jeff Hays absolutely slays. Hays seems to be doing too much but as the series goes along the performance becomes outstanding.

I am listening to the audio book Sisterhood of Dune which about the start of the Bene Gesserit. A lot of people don't like Brain Herbert's dune books. I think they are entertaining enough. Previous to this, I listened to the three Silo audio books. They weren't bad.

I've started reading them this year.

Really enjoyed the first two but ran out of steam a bit at the start of the third. Each book seems to be the same as the last but in a different location.

Just means I'll need a break between each book, I had this issue with red rising after book two, I'm going to see how this third book goes and maybe start the third red rising book instead in the next few days
