In theory yes, but closing yourself to Chinese markets is a totally ineffective way to influence the government if you're the only one doing it.

Only a united economic front could possibly influence China's behavior, and that prospect is severely complicated by trade dependencies. At some point the world is going to have to rip off that bandage and it's not going to be pleasant.

Except, you know, they don’t sell their games to their government but to the people who didn’t choose to live in a dictatorship and are happy to get access to western games for as long as it’s allowed.

Punishing the chinese people by preventing them access to something as harmless as video games is the most idiotic view one can imagine…

Most Chinese people (mainland) now support the government as absolutely as in 1960s. You will understand this when you can read Chinese and surf around Chinese websites.

The last few about concentration camps are quite shocking if you ask me. Blizzard is willingly protecting a military regime that's torturing people, they're essentially condoning warcrimes. If you take these steps to save the face of China it's essentially complying to human rights abuse and they're guilty by association.

It's the same as during WWII the companies that willingly worked with the Nazis.

Or they know the PRC is looking over their shoulder 24/7 and not dare speak up as *Gasp* being alive is infinity times better than being a rotting corpse in the ground.

Yeah China thing is bad, but can we just look at them saying you no longer need to do the cypher to get flying. That's very unlike Blizzard to change things like this.

after enough time in these conditions, people start to believe the propaganda. This is why they're doing that whole surveillance thing, they're turning people into willing followers

Now can we stop pretending our moral values have progressed?

That’s only half the country. The other half still gets to play the moral high ground card.

Then stop using half of the current technologies, because the list of those companies is pretty huge, you can go further and stop asking for medical care, because you know why? doctors are still using researches of doctor Mengele aka the Angel of death.

It's not about affecting the government. While it would be ideal if everyone came together and made a difference, the point is to make it so THEY don't make a difference on YOU. That is to say, that the CCP doesn't convince businesses to start doing things "their way", as well as becoming dependent on Chinese markets. Because at that point, then those companies are willing to do things outside Chinese markets that the CCP wants them to do, such as various forms of censorship that are bad for everyone.

It's not about punishing the Chinese people, that's just an unfortunate side effect, it's about protecting yourself from the predatory and insidious practices of the CCP. I'd love to give the people access to all the stuff we have, but it's impossible since you have to go through the government, and the government will force you to do things you REALLY shouldn't do in order to get the money of their people.

Well, yeah, they have no fucking choice. Not only are they heavily indoctrinated, there's social credit and re-education camps. Obviously you're going to fucking talk up the government and say you support them if you don't want to get disappeared.

I'm glad they changed how we unlock flying. Hopefully this will go quicker, and it'll be a lot more interesting.

Chinese internet is under massive surveillance and censorship. If you think that's the place to look for any disagreement you're a fool or an idiot.

I'm sorry, but you're extremely off-base here. If I am a company, and I choose to sell things to the Chinese markets, I am going to immediately be at a risk due to the insane number of strings attached. This is like a monkey's paw, you see? "I wish I could help the Chinese people by selling them products they want." Congratulations! You get that, but you also have to sacrifice all morals and ethics, as well as kowtow to the wishes of the CCP, and eventually betray your own fucking people by censoring products in other countries to appease the CCP.

Me, the company, not buying Chinese products, will essentially do nothing but deny them that tiny bit of money. Buying their products is a risk, to be sure, since you give them that itty-bitty amount of power through your money, but it's NOTHING compared to the sheer social power of having another company in their pocket, ready and willing to do whatever they want to maintain a huge stream of revenue.

So is any company that deals with China, aka most of them. While it may seem shocking, this is shit that any company that sells products in China must follow. Try to live a life free of chinese products, i think you will find that incredibly difficult.
