Interesting trade by the Saints, give up future picks for an extra 1st this year, must like the guys projected to go in the 15-20 range this year.

Why would they trade that whole package just for a pick that low, right now, when there's no telling what player might be available there at the Draft?
Why not just make that trade at the draft when you know for sure the guy you want is there?
You don't trade all this not knowing which guy you want. That would be even sillier.
Saints don't really trade up for QBs, granted it's a new coaching staff, but there isn't any QB worth trading up for. If they're available at 16 then sure.
I know I'm not falling into the trap of thinking the Saints made a move with a QB in mind, it's been wrong every other time.

Saints value the 5th year on contracts and I would imagine they want some quality first round players to get on lower salary cap hits to replace some of the players they have lost. They are reloading, not rebuilding and want to keep it going. This is how they operate with the draft and the cap at least. I would be shocked if they wasted more picks to move up in the draft to get a QB they don't need.

I never think trading that many draft picks AND then taking a major cap hit is worth it. Is it the receiver that is THE missing piece of a super bowl? I don't think so.

That's my thoughts too. None of these QBs will be better than Winston this year or next, so why trade that much draft capital for a QB? If Winston does not work you're stuck with him this year and next year you don't have a first rounder so could use free agency or trades I suppose.
Hell, we're just kicking the ball down the road on extending Stefon Diggs, who's like 1B tier to Adams' 1A, and the smart people in Buffalo sports media are conjecturing if they'll trade Diggs or let him walk after this season.
And most people would kill for a Diggs.
Gotta be smart with your WRs, especially when you can get them all over the draft. Traditionally WRs need a few years to develop in the NFL, so everyone's like "draft a WR in round 1!" I'm just wishing, and hoping, and praying that Jameson falls to 25.
What could also happen is that you extend Diggs for 96M for 4 years...

So much for the salary cap being real. Last I checked, we were $250k below the cap yesterday.
Jokes aside, it's an extension so it doesn't even kick in til 2024 and it actually LOWERED our cap hit for this year. Some cap magic going on there.
Should have seen Schefter's first tweet on it. Jesus that dude is an emotionless robot. Had to delete it and repost the above.
Damn man.
I know he didn't live up to expectations after being drafted and he made some dumb decisions. But he was still one of the best QBs in the world by virtue of making an NFL roster. No one can take that from him.
I believe the /r/nfl post still has the original tweet in the title, something like "Dwayne Haskins has died" and that was it. These scoopsters can't be wasting time typing anything remotely thoughtful when you gotta be first with the scoop, even dealing with a young players death.
Sucks though. Seemed like he turned things around after leaving Washington.
What kills me about it is that you'd think that, after hearing news of someone dying, that you'd be a bit more tactful if you were going to briefly eulogize him.
Emphasize his great career OSU. Mention that he was "learning" or "growing". Shit, just mention that he's and NFL caliber QB and nothing else (where's the lie there?)
But nah, just got to mention his struggles don't you?
It's probably a case where he wanted to break the news and didn't stop and think until it was too late. He corrected the tweet. So at least it seems like he know he fucked up.
Hope he learns from this. Crazy how social media turns people into inconsiderate sociopaths.
"Dwayne Haskins. NFL QB for three seasons. Played for Ohio State as a QB and threw 50 touchdowns in 2018, his lone starting season, one of just seven quarterbacks to reach the milestone in a single NCAA season. Has passed away today in a car accident."
Took me 1:23 seconds counting the time to log into MMO Champion, quick google search, copy and pasted from Wikipedia, edit to make it my own words.
No humanity was the original tweet. How far has social media snuck society that we don't care about another human being's life?
UGH UGH UGH.
