Ravens and Jets had the best drafts by a mile. Giants and Eagles did well too. I was really pulling for Kyle Hamilton when he dropped and was available but Jordan Davis is such a great for Gannon's defense that I would have been happy with either. I still really wanted Hamilton but the AJ trade made up for it.

Really, the draft was weird as a whole. Guards also don't typically go in the 1st but there were 3 this year and 2 in the top 17. Pushes up where the next players at the position will be drafted compared to what they are perceived as (even then, the people that do draft rankings do 30 different lists in April for clicks).

Yep. Green and Johnson went 15 and 17, when going into the first round the "experts" weren't sure they'd even make the first round cut. Shocking, I know.

And Strange was viewed as a 2nd rounder by most reasonable evaluators, so getting a 2nd rounder at 29 is also not quite as bad as it gets plastered on the news about "Patriots spend first round pick on a 3rd round guard".

I'm already sick of my own fellow Patriots fans on this issue, so hopefully we'll pick up a Corner and Linebacker on Day 2 or the moaning will never stop. >.<

Only one draft pick from my alma mater last night. Same number as our hated rivals Notre Dame and......less than Michigan? Gross.

As a Lions fan, the first round was pretty much my dream scenario

Can't believe the Vikings made that trade

Something had to replace the usual 3-5 QBs that go in the first round and this year it was apparently Guards and Linebackers.

Also zero running backs for the first time since 2013.

It was very much trench warfare, with an arms race between receivers and corners as a secondary story.

[Cubelic] Last night was the first time in the Common Draft Era that no running backs or tight ends were selected in the First Round of the NFL Draft.

Curious to see if there is a run on QBs early in the 2nd.

If Lions come away with Hutch, Williams, and Howell I will be very happy. Esp if we can get rid of Goff before the season somehow.

I mean that is basically the direct reaction to the Super Bowl.

Offenses loading up for a Shanahan-McVay zone run scheme with a roster of multiple star WRs.

Defenses loading up to beat said lines in the pass rush to force star QBs into making mistakes and CBs that can win on an island against star WRs.

So digesting the picks from yesterday, I've come around on the Wyatt pick. Fast rusher that fell to them, probably won't 100% replace Zadarius Smith but he plugs the hole Smith left behind at least.

Still do not like or understand Quay Walker. The biggest thing that stands out to me is this guy had 0 INTs and 0 Fumbles in College. This feels like just getting a younger Campbell, not getting a defensive upgrade. Which is even crazier when there were OLs and WRs on the board, and probably options to trade into the top of the 2nd if the Packers felt like they could wait till tonight on those two positions.

(I don't hate the pick tbh. He was super good at the Senior Bowl, and projects to fill the hole we had at Guard. I can imagine Bill didn;t want to miss out on a prospect many other teams really loved (just probably not loved enough to take in the first) It's just really unusual for the Patriots to draft for need like this.)
I think it was also the only player Drawplay Dave didn't have already drawn, which is the unofficial sign of a reach.

This year's theme is so horribly cursed and I love it.

You say that now, but wait until you see Drew Lock play for a couple games.

Actually, he isn't beating out Geno Smith so you might not have to suffer through that.

At least we dont have to suffer a season of Trubisky.

Having 17 games each of him and Lock would have been tragic.

I'm convinced the Packers didn't take Watson last night solely because they believe that their WRs somehow play better if taken in the 2nd round.

It's probably not true, but it makes me laugh so I'm believing it.
