    It didn't invalidate their playability.

    Neither would playable Darkfallen

We could officially get proper Dark Rangers that aren't just Forsaken or Blood Elves RPing a dead elf.

Wait so has there been any new datamining about a new race? I just completely dipped after the announcement but returned here today because of the rogue / mage / priest announcement

There was some music and some new combat sounds. Nothing definitive, but a bit too much to be a coincidence.

Good chance the requirements for Darkfallen are going to be

    - Complete the Liadrin Ghostlands questline
    - Complete the Dark Ranger Velonara questline
    - Complete the encrypted Calia questline

It would be funny if there's also Night Elf Darkfallen for the Alliance but you need a level 60 Blood elf to unlock them, but they've been this sadistic with unlocks before.

Anyone have any guesses what their racials will be?

So what are people thinking it might be?

    Tuskarr? Darkfallen? Anything else?
Are Darkfallen any different than San'layn?

Apparently "Darkfallen" just means "dead elf" now.
It became clear that it wasn’t realistic to try to get the audience back to being more hardcore, as it had been in the past. -- Tom Chilton

the music is elf music and the voices are dark ranger stuff (I believe), so most like darkfallen.

San'layn are darkfallen, with darkfallen being a catch all for undead elves.

It's the all-encompassing word to mean all (non-spectral) undead elves. It makes sense. The Blood Princes has unique features but their San'layn minions were physically the same as dark rangers.

Tuskarr makes more sense to be a late-expansion AR, like Vulpera. We haven't befriended the new plot-relevant Tuskaar Tribe yet.

Watchers would be cool, but would require a lot of work. The new Gnolls in Dragonblight use Worgen rigs.

Rewatched the cutscene with Sylvanas and Tyrande in Ardenweald.

Could be interesting if Horde got dark ranger customization and Alliance got expanded Elune/night warrior customization - like the moon sigils and glowy bits on Tyrande during that part.

Then, why are dead, red eyed elves a race? It's literally a customization that comes with the class.
    Unless we're talking vampires.

Because as far as Blizzard has recognized in the lore so far, Dark Ranger had been used as a title for Darkfallen who are part of the Unseen Path.

Huh? What's that have to do with a race?

Dark Rangers are primarily represented by Darkfallen.

I don't think you can have a proper Dark Ranger without them being playable.

Same if we talk about a Sea Witch class in the game, it's not happening without having Naga playable.

Thats hardly true, pretty much only kael was ruined in bc, what else? Warcraft 2 is not worth mentioning. Horde was good choice for them.

Was the highborne song pulled back? Really..?
I would love for some one to collect all evidence and put it together.

I am not really that far to say... its pretty much confimed.

Horde was not a good choice for them. The literal reason why Blood Elves ended up being playable on Horde was to balance the huge population disparity between Alliance and Horde after Vanilla showed clear data that many people favoured playing pretty races, which the Horde did not have. They added Blood Elves to Horde to balance that out, which is why Blood Elves remain most played race on Horde today.

Lore reasons had nothing to do with them joining the Horde. By all means Blood Elves were either part of the Illidari alliance with Naga, Draenei and Illidan, or else independent like the High Elves mostly remain today.

Sylvanas was their ez link pretty much lorewise. On top of that what ever we have to believe of it, with the whole pretty race stuff we were told.

The rest is true, but its so long ago Its just what it is at this point. That being said, I hella curious if all this * evidence* is really going to give us Darkfallen.

Darkfallen now being the race of dark rangers and san layn , I hope they give them some vampiric features if possible.

We have to wait and see, but this part of 9.2.5 intrigues me.

    San'layn flight (draven hearthstone abillity)
Door of shadows ( weaker form)
    Some leech passive

Also depends what they make of the banshee part(ditching it or enhancing it)
    Light footed( 5% dpeed)
    Some kind of weak stealth.

Blood elves, Night elves and Humans with grey skin and red eyes granted to them by class customization like Death Knights?

Which we may be getting for Hunters in an undisclosed point in the future, in some fashion

Eh. Sylvanas should have never joined the Horde either. They fucked the lore up on that one. She hated the Orcs for killing her younger brother, who she was very close to. They either ignored or forgot about that when they had her join the Horde in Vanilla, and even the Sylvanas novel now covers that in an awkward way that makes little sense. It's like they just retcon it to her begrudgingly joining the Horde for the sake of her people even though it makes no damned sense when she was fully capable of dealing with external threats without permanent servitude to any faction. Servitude would have been completely out of character for her, and they made her join the Horde out of necessity of having only 2 playable factions and having to choose one to lump her and the Forsaken into.

Same goes for Night Elves, who could have remained independent without joining the Alliance as their own faction no problem. These were gameplay driven reasons more than actual lore driven.

Uh, idk man. Like I said its so long ago. Sylvanas and her group were outcasts like the rest of the horde.. it was the only faction that made sense putting the forsaken in I guess. Night elves could have been in the horde as well. But honestly what does it matter at this point?

    Lets get back to topic.

Now that darkfallen are their own thing, I am curious were this will take them.
