Funny, you don't even mention THE best selling PC game of all time, which makes the total sales of World of Warcraft look very niche indeed.
um.
Games that have sold or shipped at least one million copies on PC platforms, such as Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds 42 million
Minecraft 33 million
Diablo III 20 million
Garry's Mod 20 million
Terraria 17.2 million
World of Warcraft 14 million

All I ever wanted was the truth. Remember those words as you read the ones that follow. I never set out to topple my father's kingdom of lies from a sense of misplaced pride. I never wanted to bleed the species to its marrow, reaving half the galaxy clean of human life in this bitter crusade. I never desired any of this, though I know the reasons for which it must be done. But all I ever wanted was the truth.
Yeah it is lol. This is the filler period where this is expansion is out of new content and everyone just twiddles their thumbs until next expansion. But lets pretend for a minute that you're right, that wouldn't change my original point. FFXIV's most hyped expansion fell off at the same rate as WoW's least hyped.

I dont doubt its filler, and likely the wrath classic population will outpace the current retail population on release. What I am saying is factually correct, wow still has a year left of shadowlands.
FFXIV continues to have a healthy growing population. There was a expansion release hype, which died down, but 6 months out, its still commanding 20-30k concurrent viewers on twitch. Compare that to 6 months out of its other expansions, it did not get at all close to its current numbers. Its still smaller than wow, but its growing while wow is shrinking.
