With all of that in mind, here are the 4 dumbest moments of Musk’s Twitter tenure thus far:

1. Paying $44 billion for the social media company is dumb when you consider that the company was worth much less than that. The “visionary” had tried to back out of the deal right up until the moment Twitter threatened to sue him and then he decided to avoid the lawsuits by agreeing to pay up. Genius at work, right?

2. He showed up as if he were Atilla the Hun issuing dire threats to workers who failed to show sufficient loyalty or who dared to leave the office before 3 am. It’s a brutal “I’m the boss” management style from the 1920s with a strong element of megalomania. Rather than inspire employees, Musk provides spectacle: “make sure the videographers catch me entering the door while I’m holding the deeply disturbing kitchen sink!”

3.He brought back Nazis to the site even as major advertisers began to withdraw citing uncertainty about where Musk was taking the site with his unusual version of “free speech.” Why would a well-known American name brand want its ad to appear next to Adolf Hitler-love? Answer: they wouldn’t.

4. He hired Matt Taibbi to conduct a lame, pathetic non-hit job on Hunter Biden. It’s almost as if Vladimir Putin himself had taken Musk and Taibbi through the Russian intelligence manual on the writing of obvious weak propaganda. That couldn’t possibly be true, of course.

The most noticeable lack of awareness by Musk, though, is the timing of this “breaking” news story: Friday night, after dinner. All wrong.

I don't think the "Friday Night Special" is as impactful as the author does - in that even before the days of the internet the whole "dump bad news on Friday afternoon/evening to avoid attention" never worked to begin with. Now with the internet, it's even less effective. Especially since media actively poke around on late Friday specifically for these types of stories.

Not that it gave Taibbi's story much juice outside of conservative circles as the only "new" things we learned were -

1. Republicans/conservatives think that there's a First Amendment right to see Hunter Biden's dick and they really want to see it.
2. That Twitter had a system for both parties to request misinformation be pulled down, and it was used by both parties. Twitter was, unsurprisingly, more responsive to Democrats and took down more "Republican" content given that Republicans were engaged in far, far more misinformation than Democrats.

And the other "bombshell" was that Twitter took this action of their own accord. Which apparently was news to a lot of very smart people! Even though Twitter said as much and went into detail about that decision months ago so anyone actually paying attention already knew this.

Ads for more than three dozen brands including major corporations appeared on the Twitter pages of white nationalist accounts in recent days after Twitter owner Elon Musk restored hordes of banned users to the social media platform.

Promoted tweets from Amazon, Snap, Uber and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, among others, appeared inadvertently on the pages of at least two white nationalists, Andrew Anglin and Patrick Casey, both of whom said their accounts had been banned but were restored recently after Musk took control of Twitter in late October.

In a vast cost-cutting campaign, Musk fired hundreds of Twitter of employees, including entire teams devoted to content moderation of the site, including ensuring ads not appear on content brands would find objectionable.

According to a former Twitter employee, speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, the accounts must be flagged to prevent advertising from appearing near them — or they will be treated as ad-eligible.

Late last month, Musk, who describes himself as a “free-speech absolutist,” posted a Twitter poll asking users whether he should restore accounts that had not engaged in illegal conduct or spam. Last week, some of those accounts began reappearing on the site, and ads began popping up on the pages of some of the restored accounts.

Having ads inadvertently appear next to such content marks the latest challenge to Musk’s relationship with Twitter advertisers. Already, many companies have been leaving the platform in droves, including after Musk briefly launched a paid-for verification system that produced a host of accounts impersonating celebrities, political figures and major companies. Civil rights groups have called for an ad boycott of the site, arguing that Musk can no longer effectively police it.

Musk and Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Amazon and Uber did not immediately respond to requests for comment. DHHS and Snap did not have immediate comment. (Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post.)

Twitter and other social media companies for years have struggled to ensure advertisements do not show up alongside hateful or otherwise objectionable content. Twitter had made efforts to improve the advertising climate and continued to grapple with the issue even before Musk’s takeover.

Musk has said he wants Twitter to be free speech-driven in its approach to content moderation, doing little beyond the bounds of the law to restrict the type of the content the appears on the site. Since taking over, he has restored the accounts of former president Donald Trump, banned in the wake of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and satire site the Babylon Bee, which had been booted for refusing to delete a tweet naming Biden health official Rachel Levine, a transgender woman, as its “Man of the Year.”

In addition to restoring prominent accounts, Musk has promised amnesty for those previously suspended, provided they hadn’t broken the law or engaged in “egregious spam. ”

But the fast-paced nature of Musk’s changes to Twitter have opened the company to problems, including the botched Twitter Blue Verified rollout. A swarm of impersonators began posing as celebrities, politicians and brands such as the pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, which halted its ad spending after a parody account declared insulin “free.”

Musk has said Twitter would make mistakes amid its vast experimentation under his new ownership. Musk has also declared some users and behavior off limits.

Last week, he banned the rapper Ye after he posted an image of a swastika and the Star of David. On Saturday, Musk said it was incitement to violence because he wanted to punch the artist formerly known as Kanye West.

On Tuesday, roughly 40 brands had ads appears on the white nationalist pages, according to a review conducted by The Post. Those included the Voices of the Civil Rights Movement, a Comcast and NBC-led effort to honor the legacy of racial justice pioneers. Media companies including USA Today and Morning Brew were also among the advertisers whose content appeared on the pages.




USA Today spokesperson Lark-Marie Antón said: “We are reaching out to Twitter immediately as this obviously does not align with our values or mission.”

The other companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Department of Health and Human Services, through a spokesperson, said it was pulling its ad from Twitter.

“HHS did not determine where this ad would appear,” said Sarah Lovenheim, chief spokesperson for the department. “Having it appear on hateful Twitter channels is inconsistent with our values and we are pulling it down.”

The ads from numerous brands and organizations, appearing under the “promoted tweets” section of Twitter, populated on pages for Anglin and Casey. Anglin is editor of the Daily Stormer, which for years has promoted openly racist and fascist views. Casey has served as leader of the white nationalist group Identity Evropa and has aimed to mainstream white nationalist ideas into the conservative movement.

Casey said, “I have never described myself as a white nationalist — I am a paleoconservative — and the organization to which you refer ceased operations in 2019.”

Attempts to reach Anglin were not immediately successful.

Anglin, who was banned from Twitter roughly a decade ago, has written about his efforts to recruit neo-Nazis. “As Hitler said, people will become confused and disheartened if they feel there are multiple enemies … As such, all enemies should be combined into one enemy, which is the Jews.”

“We don’t believe America needs to be 100.00 percent white, but we do think that America isn’t going to be America if there isn’t a European-America supermajority,” Casey said, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

A Health and Human Services public service announcement boasted “#WeCanDoThis,” referring to coronavirus vaccination efforts, under Anglin’s endorsement of Ye for president.

Ye has recently praised Adolf Hitler and said he would go “death con 3” on “JEWISH PEOPLE.”

Brand ads also appeared under white supremacist posts from accounts with display names including “No White Guilt Clips” and “White Power Ranger,” the latter of which posted a photo of what appeared to be a Nazi officer with a Hugo Boss logo, a reference to the designer brand that has apologized for its role in the atrocities, according to media outlets.

Underneath the Nazi post was a promoted tweet from domain name site GoDaddy, according to a screenshot viewed by The Post.

GoDaddy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Musk’s tenure kicked off with a reassurance to advertisers that Twitter would not become a “free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!”

He also said Twitter would not derive revenue from hateful tweets.

“New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach,” he wrote on Nov. 18 in a tweet. “Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter.”

Some Twitter accounts that had previously engaged in hateful conduct did not have ads on them. No ads were visible on the page of Richard Spencer, for example, the alt-right leader of the deadly Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville.

The former employee said that indicated a possible block on revenue-deriving activities from Spencer, but not the newly restored accounts.

So uh...yeah...laying off all the people that handled ad sales and served as account reps for big advertisers maybe like, did things?

Oh boy, this sure looks like yet another thing literally fucking everybody predicted would happen in an increasingly long list of things literally the whole-ass internet has predicted would happen. Not because any of us can predict the future, and speaking personally I know I'm just not that smart. It's because of how depressingly predictable this shit's been. Looks like Musk is using his power to manipulate the flow of information. It's a big wake up call to people on the left who became reliant on Twitter for their exposure.

They claim that more of the Twitter Files are on the way, but are heavily implying that Baker basically sanitized any "Evidence". At least that's the angle it seems they're trying to take. We can now tell you part of the reason why. On Tuesday, Twitter Deputy General Counsel (and former FBI General Counsel) Jim Baker was fired. Among the reasons? Vetting the first batch of “Twitter Files” – without knowledge of new management.

So this is some obvious Fox News shit type hit job. Taibbi and Musk himself found out Baker was their General Counsel, top lawyer then I guess looked at his Linkedin page that he worked for the FBI.

Immediately and in Taibbi's post the (and former FBI General Counsel) immediately is using the bs of deep state, gubbernment and all that. Immediately trying to discredit from what he did, which was his job of looking at the Twitter files and make sure the company of Twitter was not responsible for anything.

So now there was a NY Post and conservative media found the talking point is Baker is a Democrat. Idk who/what party he belongs too, yet as when Taibbi linked the political donations of Twitter, people have the right to vote for who they want. Twitter Keeps Missing Its Advertising Targets as Woes Mount

The World Cup has historically been a boon for Twitter, bringing in record traffic and an influx of advertising dollars.

But this time, when the global soccer tournament started on Nov. 20, Twitter’s U.S. ad revenue was running at 80 percent below internal expectations for that week, three people with knowledge of the figures said.

In tandem, Twitter was rapidly cutting its revenue projections. The company previously forecast that it would generate $1.4 billion in the last three months of the year, down from $1.6 billion a year ago because of the global economic downturn. But as Twitter kept missing its weekly advertising targets, that number slid to $1.3 billion, then to $1.1 billion, two people said.

Advertisers’ confidence in Twitter was shaken further when its sales and advertising team turned over after Mr. Musk took charge. Leslie Berland and J.P. Maheu, who were responsible for maintaining key relationships with some top brands, left last month. Robin Wheeler, a U.S. ad executive who briefly resigned before staying on, was then fired after Mr. Musk asked her to cut employees from the sales team and she refused, two people said.

Dara Nasr, who oversaw Twitter’s ad operations in Britain, also left last month. The company’s ad sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa were down more than 50 percent the week of Nov. 21 from the prior week, two people familiar with the numbers said.
