My entire timeline is being flooded with political posts now - in which it's a bunch of MAGA hat profile picture people throwing hate and vitriol at anything they perceive as being "left".

Your timeline only shows what you are interested in so that is odd, I see nothing political at all in my timeline because I don't follow anyone in politics.

And even the trending topics have a lot more diverse topics being discussed now than they used to, as it was proven that Twitter admins were forcing political discussions as the trends rather than what people really want to talk about which is stuff like entertainment, video games, etc. Even the few people who I follow that do talk politics stuff from time to time, I don't see any of this claimed garbage. Always a pro tip is to have your feed set to showing Latest Tweets instead of Top Tweets, because that is where you find all the bullshit.

This post with 70k likes points out that someone who has no right wing interests is being forced to view right wing dogma and propaganda in their timeline, and has tons of replies echoing the same sentiment. Earlier in this thread I posted an image about how left wing pundits are stagnating on followers, if not losing them, while right wing pundits are exploding.

Twitter has the power to feature/suppress different people and topics. With Musk going on Twitter live to say that he believed the 2020 election was stolen because Twitter unfairly put their finger on the scales for Democrats and vowing to put his finger on the scales for Republicans, do people really think it's that far of a stretch that Musk is giving right wing politics more exposure and suppressing the other side? My non political twitter account is about 3/4 normal stuff but 1/4 right wing BS. And many are noticing this trend.

He's not done much of anything on his own in his life. He wasn't a Tesla founder, but when he kicked the actual Tesla founders out, he sued to call himself the founder.

This twitter debacle shows that he's a manchild with thin skin. One only needs to look back a few pages to see his tantrums banning people for making fun of him, even when they followed the rules. He's a petulant child.

And most indicting of all, his claim that this was about freedom of speech is pure BS. He's doing this to control the narrative. I'd say the fortunate part is that he's been transparent about that. But despite his clear admission of malfeasance in regards to the future of Twitter, his fans continue to insist it was some noble act for free speech.

You can't have free speech in absolutes. It doesn't work that way, especially when there are tons of countries that Twitter operates in that have hate speech laws that make a lot of what people think they should be allowed to say illegal.

I find it hilarious when the whole "censorship" debate started a couple years back, and conservatives were like "SECTION 230!!!!" most leftists/progressives, and liberals in general, were like: Yeah, corporations should be held liable for what's said on their platforms. Not doing so allows misinformation to proliferate, as well as hate (which Twitter cracked down on a bit after Jan6). There was a public square argument to be made, but because we understand nuance, we knew that applying a 1st amendment critique to Twitter was baseless and irrelevant. And, we disagreed with said conservatives on the content that was being censored/not censored, mainly based on the facts, which, as always, have never been on the conservatives side. We ruefully wished 1st Amendment protections did apply to Twitter, because then, INCITING VIOLENCE, and stochastic terrorism (which is what Elon Musk is doing when he says "Prosecute Fauci"), which has always been a limit on the freedom of speech, constitutionally, would have to be rigorously enforced on Twitter - probably killing it, as heavy moderation is too time and resource intensive.

But now that their right wing troll king is in charge, there's not a peep about section 230 and holding Twitter liable for what's said on their platform. It reveals, as always, they don't give a shit about censorship - they just have a fascist, authoritarian need to not only have an outlet for their hateful rhetoric, but have it be protected and respected by people who don't want it. It's the very definition of fascist.

My main take is that not less than a week ago Twitter scrubbed their Covid policy. Many reasons but you see here that this paves a way for elon, to go crazy on just saying shit about covid. I don't even know if Elon is a vaccine denier or had taken the vaccine. I do know that like any piece of shit corporate owner, he was must upset that he had to half way protect his workers instead of letting them work in an environment where they were more susceptible to Covid and spreading. While this did not happen in the US, elon lost his shit when China did this.

About a week after he took over he Musk said something repellent enough that I deactivated my account and have let it be deleted. I don't miss it, one bit. At this point anyone who's not in on the right-wing fascist love-in and is still spending time on Twitter is just facilitating said love-in. They want everyone who's not a fascist to be exposed to their hatred because they know it eventually seeps in because they make it seem oh so reasonable, by remaining on Twitter you actually help create that lack of a viable alternative.

If the normal people abandoned Twitter then it would crash and something useful would be created to take it's place. But, so long as non-Nazi's spend all their social time on a Nazi site then the Nazi site is going to be dominant.

Just leave Twitter and delete your account. After a few weeks you won't miss it at all
