Reading that article, I could just feel the Herculean effort Chapelle was going through to salvage that. Considering he made Wayne Brady look like Snoop Dog, the fact that he couldn't keep Musk from being booed says way more about Musk than it does about Chapelle.

comedy is going on stage and shouting 'iM RICH' at the crowds. Worked for ricky gervais to be fair. (and noel gallagher)

Champion of free speech strikes again.

He (well tbh Twitter, if there is any difference) shadowbanned an account that has been tracking his personal jet since 2020.

The Atlantic wrote an article about Vladimir Putin that I think is very applicable to folks like Elmo (i.e. CEOs and the ultrawealthy in general).

Autocrats such as Putin eventually succumb to what may be called the “dictator trap.” The strategies they use to stay in power tend to trigger their eventual downfall. Rather than being long-term planners, many make catastrophic short-term errors—the kinds of errors that would likely have been avoided in democratic systems. They hear only from sycophants, and get bad advice. They misunderstand their population. They don’t see threats coming until it’s too late. And unlike elected leaders who leave office to riches, book tours, and the glitzy lifestyle of a statesman, many dictators who miscalculate leave office in a casket, a possibility that makes them even more likely to double down.

I can name at least one elected leader who did the same thing. So I guess this is dictators and dictators-in-training-pants?

Said leader who was also a CEO and ultrawealthy (in theory), no less.

I'm sure there's a psychological underpinning to all this in the vein of them being subconsciously aware they've done fuck all to actually earn their position in society and sublimating that insecurity into a desperate need for others' approval, resulting in them curating their business and social circles to excise any criticism however valid but at the end of the day I just don't care. Lol.

I'm still waiting on that deep dive into "The Revolution of Dissapoinment in the Internet Age". How this generation of counter-elites let thier dissillusionment become a commodity on the internet.

Man, what the fuck was the point of Chapelle bringing Elon out anyways?

Is Chapelle doing comedy again? I miss when he had more than like 2 jokes which weren't even funny, but he keeps walking out on stage and repeating them to an audience so I assume this is comedy.

Either way, jesus christ Elon so desperately wants people to like him. Can't he buy himself a few fucking friends?

Who knows. But like it or not, he's a pretty huge public figure at the moment. So why not bring him out. Besides, shit going sideways would have just let Chapelle stroke his persecution boner, if he thought that would get him even more attention.

I just now watched the clip of it. It's actually a shame it wasn't planned as it's the only thing Dave has done in last few years that got a good laugh from me. The look of complete humiliation on Elon's face even on the low quality video camera footage is priceless.

All of us realize that he can do whatever he wants with his own platform.

We just realize that his claims of prizing free speech above all else were a lie. And anyone who claims he's a free speech champion is a useful idiot.

My non political account sometimes makes game related posts, but very rarely. It does not engage in politics. I do that on a separate account. My gaming and general non political account is having right wing garbage show up on it even though I've not been engaging with or even viewing political discourse on it.

But even people who do engage with politics, why should right wing nuttery appear on their timeline if they clearly don't want it to? People curate their own experience on Twitter. And as mentioned previously in this thread, Musk has said that he intends to put his thumb on the scales when it comes to politics to try and push things farther right. And while someone already entrenched in the left won't be affected, fence sitters will see this increased right wing activity and be more susceptible to it.

Its called "Impostor's syndrome" though I think its normally used for people who did earn the place they are in, but they feel like they are somehow a fraud
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.

Well could be because I use a mod on twitter, I hate the layout on PC since they changed it to be the same as on mobile, so I use a script called 'Goodtwitter 2' so it looks like it used to look, but I don't see that it should suppress anything.

Also seems conservatives are really pushing the narrative that Jack and others were into child porn, or something, because they're "not finding any child porn after Musk took over".

That tells us one of two things:

    1. They're liars

    2. They were looking up topics that made them see child porn. That or they were just searching for child porn.

The "dictator trap" described above is a symptom, not of Impostor Syndrome, but "dictator disease" - when someone becomes so powerful that they can successfully install a filter between themselves and reality. Bad news, failures, useful criticism, anything they don't like, it doesn't enter their awareness, because it gets screened out by flunkies and fear. It happens pretty reliably to human beings who put themselves in a position where they can exercise such control. (And it seems to take about ten years, though individuals can vary.) And such people are functionally insane; they are incapable of making rational decisions, because even if their minds were working well (and they usually aren't by that point) they cannot receive and process the information that would allow them to do so.
"For the present this country is headed in directions which can only carry ruin to it and will create a situation here dangerous to world peace. With few exceptions, the men who are running this Government are of a mentality that you and I cannot understand. Some of them are psychopathic cases and would ordinarily be receiving treatment somewhere. Others are exalted and in a frame of mind that knows no reason."

alternative theory : hes just a cunt.

Theres all this paypal mafia who were a bunch of white south africans who saw democracy take away their (white)power so they all hate any sort of democratic accountability or governance. (thiel, sacks, musk etc). Or his daddy used to beat him (maybe worse) and hes got serious issues which is why he always tries to control women. Or whatever you are going with. But more likely hes just a fucking dork who got a taster or power and it helped reveal who he is, a daft cunt.
