Actually, this makes suspiciously too much sense to me.

If someone posts "Hey, here's a list of every Democrat and their family members, why aren't they being indicted too?" it'll get traction based on people who agree liking and sharing. When people respond "Um, for what crime?" they're unlikely to like and/or share.

Replies, especially calling out someone's bullshit, don't actually mean a post is all that good.

I mean, raise your hand if you're at all surprised that Elom is suppressing information on the Ukraine invasion.

Goodbye Twitter bird. Hello doge of dogecoin fame.

The platform will now be know as Shitter, combining Shiba Inu and Twitter seemlessly in a word that just rolls off the tongue with some nice mouthfeel.

also, still lol @ elom taking away NYT's checkmark because they said they weren't gonna pay for that stupid shit. truly, the ultimate delicate snowflake manbaby

You know the doge badge was supposed to be an april fool joke... but it just took him three days to get it to work.

Well, on the bright side for elon musk, he had tesla slash prices and *still* missed forecasts.

This was already used at my work.

Speaking of, does anyone know if Tesla still accepts dogecoin payments or what Elom's holdings are? Just curious if he's having himself some more fun manipulating unregulated speculative meme markets for the lulz.

This is a fast-moving thread, Elon does a lot of stupid in a short amount of time.

This Axios summary might help people who missed a day or two.

    Pay for play "verification"
April 1 marked the official deadline for previously verified Twitter users to pay for Twitter Blue to keep their blue check marks.

    • Although most previously verified accounts have yet to lose the mark, the system has already begun to break down, with many celebrities and news organizations vowing not to pay.
    • Among those who have said they won't pay are celebrities such as LeBron James and news organizations including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times. The White House is also not willing to pay, as Sara Fischer first reported on Friday.
    • The New York Times apparently lost its check mark after saying it wouldn't pay, per the Washington Post.
    • In general, removing legacy verifications may take Twitter a while, as insiders say removing them is a manual process — no one planned for a need for mass deletion.

    Twitter's recommendation engine
Twitter's Friday release of some of the code that it uses to choose and rank content in the "For You" section provided readers with some new surprises.

    • Twitter identifies certain accounts as Democrat or Republican. Per Mashable, developers said this was so Twitter could track whether algorithm changes were affecting one party disproportionately. But such tracking also opens the door to potential abuses.
    • Musk's account, meanwhile, also has his own special category in the code, which could explain why many users have reported seeing his messages so prominently.
    • The open-sourcing of the engine also revealed other mechanics at play, including how the service boosts content with images, downranks certain content with external links and increases distribution based on engagement criteria such as likes, retweets and replies, while limiting content that results in blocks and other negative engagement.
    • There are other examples of the company putting its thumb on the scale. Tweets about Ukraine, for example, are said to be down-ranked.

Topics Musk doesn't want talked about
Separate from the algorithm, many users noted that there are a series of words that Twitter seems to want people not to use.

    • If you use the words "trans" or "transgender" in a tweet, for example, the message won't preview if you share it via direct message on Twitter. (This was documented by others and I also experienced it while trying to share this post I wrote for transgender day of visibility.)
    • Other terms said to be on the list are "bisexual," "gay," "lesbian" and "queer."
    • While not an outright ban or even a "shadow ban," the move has the effect of making it harder for people to have a free conversation.

Twitter's response to e-mailed questions remains an autoreply with a poop emoji.

A number of soon-to-be-unverified users decided to go out with a bang, changing their display name and image to impersonate someone else.

Lawfare blogger Ben Wittes turned his account into "Russian Embassy on Twitter" and started posting pro-Ukraine content, while others pretended to be everyone from Ted Cruz to J.K. Rowling apologizing for past actions.

"I think it's fascinating that the sickest burn at the moment is impersonating a mean person and tweeting something kind," Pixar film director Angus McLane wrote in a tweet.
So, people with old verification check marks, you get one shot. Make it memorable!

Elon Musk is facing a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit after crypto investors accused him of intentionally inflating the price of dogecoin.

Plaintiffs in the US case claim Mr Musk used his social media presence and an appearance on Saturday Night Live to drive up dogecoin’s price by “more than 36,000 per cent over two years and then letting it crash”.

The filing alleges that Mr Musk “used his pedestal as World’s richest man to operate and manipulate the Dogecoin Pyramid Scheme.”

Elom not only removed the NYT legacy check mark for saying they weren't paying for Twitter Blue, he gave Catturd, his ultra right wing simp, a free legacy check mark.

Is it free speech when you have a guy picking winners and losers? I thought he was a self-style "Free Speech Absolutist" and that's why he let all those Nazi's and shit out of Twitter jail?

Is he just a sensitive, delicate snowflake of a manbaby?

I mean, I realize this is facetious, but yes, we've known for months (years) now that Elom is a giant over sensitive man baby snowflake who is boosting fascist opinions.

Twitter, Bucking Its Own Policy, Adds “State-Affiliated Media” Label to NPR Account

According to Twitter’s guidelines, state-affiliated media outlets are defined as those “where the state exercises control over editorial content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution.” Outlets like Russia Today and China’s Xinhua News have received such labels on Twitter.

Prior to Tuesday’s change, the guidelines also noted that “state-financed media organizations with editorial independence, like the BBC in the UK or NPR in the US for example, are not defined as state-affiliated media for the purposes of this policy.” As of Wednesday, the reference to NPR has been removed
Elmo's is so right wing brain broken thinking NPR is some government arm of media. Feeding into the right who has to obsessed every thing that doesn't agree with them as the enemy. If he believes this I'm Shocked why NPR didn't go full Trump propaganda under his term. Hmm?

Yes this is not the Twitter policy currently right now. He is just making shit up.

Academic researchers blast Twitter’s data paywall as ‘outrageously expensive’

In an open letter this week, the Coalition for Independent Technology Research — a group representing dozens of researchers and civil society organizations — said free and open access to Twitter data has historically enabled systematic, large-scale research on social media’s role in public health initiatives, foreign propaganda, political discourse, and even the bots and spam that Musk has blamed for ruining Twitter.

But Twitter’s new tiered access system undercuts all of that, the researchers said. The company’s pricing that launched last week, starting at $100 per month for a “basic” amount of data, does not provide nearly enough volume for users at the low end, while the high end “ranges from $42,000 to $210,000 per month [and] is unaffordable for researchers,” the letter said.

The new basic tier limits users to reading just 10,000 tweets per month. That represents 0.3% of what researchers used to be able to collect in a single day, the letter said.

Even under the most expensive “enterprise” tier costing upwards of $2.5 million a year, Twitter is offering only a fraction of the tweets it used to, the letter continued. Before the change, researchers could pay about $500 a month for the ability to access up to 10% of the roughly 1 billion tweets a month that flow across Twitter’s platform.
While out of my field, the gist of this I take is; It used to be free and now Musk wants money. I mean, if he is trying to squeeze all the revenue from this site, then whatever. I can't rant about this as stated above and I suppose like everything they eventually milk all for money.

    This is classic though:

Twitter, which has cut much of its public relations team under CEO Elon Musk, automatically responded to a request for comment with an email containing a poop emoji.
I just hate this 50 year old wannabee zoomer.

Yep, it makes it really, really easy to completely kill any research and reporting into Twitter trends and behaviors, like rising antisemitism resulting from Elom's decision to let all the Nazi's and shit out of Twitter jail, when you price access to that previously free data out of range for any researchers.

Want to see a man who buys a social media company to literally create his own fictional reality around himself? We're watching it happen in real time.

    Alright. Piss off Elmo!!

The best account on Twitter is gone.
    @buitengebieden has been suspended. Insane.
    '

Anyone familiar with this account was about posting heartwarming pictures about animals, being rescued. Good stuff. Idk how or why? Some speculating didn't pay for Twitter Blue. 2 million followers.

Wait, I'm actually familiar with that account. Literally what the fuck? Only thing I could imagine is ban evasion but even then...why? Was it spreading too much joy for Elom?

Imagine being relatively young, super rich, somewhat good looking and having a smoking hot step sister. Now imagine she wants to create some step-porn and instead of trying to hook up with you she goes after your decrepit ancient old father and has a few kids with him. Even if you didn't want to bang her the blow to your ego when she doesn't even try hooking up with you has got to be massive. 2017 is when he started to show his crazy which just so happens to be the year his stepsister popped out his step-nephew-brother.

Well Tesla is dropping again was over $200 a share back to $185. I hate Elon but I can say I don’t sell but I was kind of wishing I bought when it dropped.

Looks like banks got some good news and the Dow is up. Hmmm.

Thought it was funny I read at a glance Elon was buying American Airlines haha here I was thinking he was still taking a bath on the 44$ billion he paid for it.

But at least according to him it’s worth half $20 billion

I mean, it is at least kind of consistent. A lot of people on the right either believe (their followers) or want others to believe (those who grift them in one way or another) that their side are the arbiters of divine right.

That's why if you have power you always have to make it at least appear as if anyone not agreeing with you doesn't just have a different opinion, but rather is wrong. And thus if you disagree with them you cannot be neutral and dispassionate. By definition you must at least be framed as biased and either too stupid to see the truth or knowing the truth and deliberately lying.
