People react similarly when their national flag is desecrated. People react similarly when their holy texts are desecrated. People react similarly when the historical places of their nation are desecrated. Hell, people in my extended family have reacted similarly when other family members got rid of "family heirlooms".

It's almost like people get mad when you disrespect or desecrate something they care a lot about.
    That doesn't make them "idols".

That's still not what an idol is. By your definition the american flag is an idol. A $20 bill is an idol. A photo of your pet is an idol. It's a dumb attempt at a gotcha.

    Its just my opinion
That's fine an all but your opinion about this is about as valuable as my opinion on how France decides to decorate for Bastille day. I can share my opinion but no one is going to care. Because I'm not French.

    It looks ugly.
Great - that's not the point. The Pride flag wasn't created to be aesthetically pleasing it was created with reasons. If you educated yourself on those reason then maybe your opinion would carry more merit than "I think this symbol I know nothing about is ugly."

Think a little of what you are saying here.

Is the pride flag the equivalent of a nation? Do you pledge an allegiance to the pride flag?

Is the pride flag the equivalent of a holy text? Do you read the teachings of pride or whatever as if they were holy?

That you think of these two as examples show why its becoming an idol. The examples you are bringing to the table are of that or similar

Many people don't or never have pledged allegiance to their nations flag, either. It's a flag, a symbol representing a group of people. That's literally what most flags are (short of semaphore and shit)

...yes? A flag represents a group of people brought together by a common demographic or characteristic...

Are you even thinking about what you are typing or just going off?

Be it a flag, a book, a school, a sports team, or even an old t-shirt you keep around for sentimental reasons, there are plenty of things that people care about and they will likely get mad when you treat said thing in a disrespectful or desecrating way.
They are not idols. People care about idols sure, but not everything people care about is an idol.

But to be fair, Musk might need the money he saved, a total of....(checks article)...$27,000? Really? That's not going to help.

Music Publishers Sue Twitter, Accusing It of Copyright Infringement

Seventeen different music publishers are asking for $250 million. Skipping out on a few months' rent isn't going to put a dent in that.

The publishers filed the suit in Federal District Court in Nashville, saying...
    (re-reads article)

    No, Nashville. That's pretty funny.

saying Twitter violated copyright law by allowing users to post music to the platform without permission. Negotiations between Twitter and the music industry to put broad licensing agreements into place had broken down months ago.

“Twitter stands alone as the largest social media platform that has completely refused to license the millions of songs on its service,” David Israelite, the president of the National Music Publishers’ Association, a trade group, said in a statement.

The suit detailed what the publishers say is Twitter’s failure to police rampant infringement of music copyrights on the service. It pointed to specific tweets in which music has been used without permission, including a post about Rihanna’s song “Umbrella” that included what the suit said is two minutes of the song’s music video. The post had 221,000 views and 15,000 likes, the suit said, but not the permission of the song’s publishers.
You might think YouTube over-polices, but if Twitter doesn't police at all, they should have expected shit like this to happen. They should have had some kind of protection, like a shield or something you hold over your head so you don't get wet in the rain. Someone should come up with a word for that, ay, ay, ay.

People don't pledge to the flag outside the US.

Or do you mean that it's the right type of echo chamber for you since Musk boost right wing conspiracy theories, racist post and others on everyone's feed.

Tweeting and retweeting Neo Nazi propaganda, conspiracy theories, transphobia and anti semitic shit isn't "extreme". I guess that's the muck you enjoy since he's reinstated all the crazies.

lol... The only reason he's losing this much money is because he's turned the site into a right-wing shithole, and advertisers have zero interest in being associated with that garbage. The same exact reason none of the other right-wing shithole sites/apps that started out with that explicit goal were able to amount to much.

This is true. I get far more tweets from malignant conservative sociopaths than I used to. Despite only following comic artists and bands I like, I almost never get recommendations for more of the same.

The Jehova Witness literally decline to pledge to the flag as they think its idolatry

Its weird ppl are now trying to deny the weight behind a national flag or pretend a holy text is just a book with symbolic meaning

Problems keep coming for poor Elon.

Music labels have banded up to sue the everliving shit out of Twitter.

Lmao I hope Musk wins this one. Charging over ppl posting pieces of songs on social media is abusr of copyright.

Seriously no one has ever been banned for their politics on twitter. Lots of people have been banned for hate speech or conspiracy theories. Those people will loudly say its because of their politics but that's never really the case.

Its hard to actually tell a difference from before to now. Political twitter still has hot takes and trolling. Maybe a few less random bans that I thought were undeserved, but that could be anecdotal. Sports Twitter feels the same. Generic breaking news and commentary feels the same. For media outside Twitter, it just went from Twitter struggling because of excess spending to Twitter struggling because of a lack of revenue.

Elon probably doesn’t have the temperament to run it. In the coming months, we’ll see if he has the discipline to let his new CEO handle the decision-making.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time." "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Thank goodness the ignore function still works here, at least. After the TERFing of the Shrew I was all out of second chances to give.

Ever since Elmo started fucking around with Twitter I've just seen more and more hate speech being Tweeted out unimpeded by accounts whose bans have been reversed and now that he's considering removing the block feature that's just going to open the door to more harassment. Oh, as an update, my account is still banned for calling Ann Coulter a heartless cunt when she was cheering the deaths of immigrant children, but good to know actual Nazis are allowed back on to express their "opinions".

Unfortunately, we live in a world where hate speech and conspiracy theories ARE people's politics...

If it was public policy of the Democrat party to say the stupid shit about white people that delusional conservatives pretend left-leaning people regularly say, I'd fully expect them to get banned for it too.
