    "I want to exclude you from public life and preferably wipe out all of your kind."

    "No? Fuck you asshole."

    Enlightened Centrist: "Why can't you be civil? BOTH SIDES."

    A lot of right wing rhetoric is INTENTIONALLY inflammatory. They admit it themselves, that they say things often just to elicit a hostile response from their target. Then people sometimes RIGHTFULLY get pissed off at this provocation. Then third parties, often people who see themselves as "above" conflicts will comment "both sides" when the appropriate reaction in a society with morals should be "Man that's kinda fucked up that you're trolling people".

    Pretty interesting that Elon has turned Twitter into his own personal harassment army who are now showing up at people's houses to harass them.

    "But Elon never TOLD them to go harass people in real life!"

    Actions have consequences, and if Elon fans here believe Elon is as smart as they think he is, they'd think he knew what he was doing. But instead they're feigning ignorance and pretending that stopping short of telling people to harass someone makes him innocent of all malicious intent.

    Twitter banned some reply bot that shilled a shitcoin and ppl are losing their minds

    https://twitter.com/DeFiDownsin/stat...tter-reply-bot

    Hey
    @elonmusk
    , I hope you read this. My heart is shattered, and my life feels like it's in ruins. Why did you have to suspend the
    @ExplainThisBob
    account? You may not realize it, but you've single-handedly destroyed everything I had.

    I was more than just a follower; I was all in on $BOB. I believed in its potential, its vision. It wasn't just about the money; it was about the hope it gave me. I had dreams of a better future, of financial stability, and maybe even a chance to escape my struggles. $BOB was my glimmer of light in the darkness.

    Every day, I would eagerly check
    @ExplainThisBob
    for updates, hoping for good news that could change my life. I found a community there, a support system of people who understood my struggles and believed in the same dream. It was a place where I felt connected, where I felt like I belonged.

    But now, it's all gone. With the suspension of that account, it feels like a part of me has been taken away. I'm left with nothing but an overwhelming sense of loss and despair. The hope that once fueled my days has been replaced by emptiness and disappointment.

    @elonmusk
    , you may have billions, but you've stolen something invaluable from me. You've stolen my hope, my faith in a better tomorrow. I can't help but wonder if you understand the consequences of your actions, the real impact they have on ordinary people like me.

    I know you have your reasons, your own battles to fight. But in the process, you've pushed me further into the depths of sadness and despair. You've made my struggles even more unbearable. I hope you never have to experience the pain of having your dreams shattered so ruthlessly.

    So, as I sit here, tears streaming down my face, I can't help but ask myself: What now? Where do I go from here? How do I rebuild my shattered life without the one thing that gave me hope?

    I hope, somehow, you come across this message and understand the pain you've caused. Perhaps, in your immense power and influence, you can find it in your heart to bring back
    @ExplainThisBob
    and restore the dreams of countless individuals like me.

    But until then, I'll be left here, broken and lost, trying to pick up the pieces of my life that you tore apart.

    Don't do this, don't drag us into this. We have nothing to do with this mess. Multiple countries in Europe have threatened Elon's Twitter with a ban because of it's (Lack of) handling of Nazi propaganda and misinformation. the EU and UN have also condemned twitter because they banned journalists for no good reason. And there is more... If you had actually followed any European news sources and not the bullshit propaganda you've been reading you would've known this.

    Well, one major difference is that the EU doesn't have the strict 1st amendment of the US - and instead of leaving the interpretation totally to the court have incorporated limitations in the actual documents; so it is easier to have laws against certain forms of speech - e.g., holocaust denial.

    Additionally the Digital Services Act is soon rolling out (August 25th for Twitter), which will require major online platforms to handle illegal contents - or face fines of up to 6% of yearly turnover in the EU.

    Wait, hadn't you heard? Twitter needs to have Nazi propaganda and misinformation. Otherwise it's an echo chamber.

    But enough about that. Mark Zuckerberg goes in for the kill as Elon Musk’s Twitter bleeds ad dollars.

    At a gathering of Meta staff last week, Chris Cox, one of Mark Zuckerberg’s most trusted lieutenants, unveiled what he called “our response to Twitter”.

    The product chief showed off what has internally been codenamed “Project 92”, or in some iterations “Barcelona”: a prototype app that the Facebook-developer hopes will finally kill its rival.

    The app is expected to be called Threads and screenshots suggest it will feature a continuous scroll of text like Twitter with buttons similar to the Like and Retweet functions, according to technology news site The Verge.

    Zuckerberg’s company is already courting celebrities and influencers to test the app. Meta has been negotiating with TV host Oprah Winfrey and Tibetan religious leader the Dalai Lama to open accounts, hoping that high-profile early users can help tempt the masses to join.

    “I know for a fact they’ve been talking to a British celebrity, and some US big name stars,” says Matt Navarra, a social media consultant.

    A launch of the new app could come as soon as “the end of the month or beginning of next month, they have been onboarding people for a little while”, he claims.

    Threads, which will be separate to Meta’s popular Instagram, is expected to feature a 500 character limit on its posts, staying true to the original ethos of Twitter even as the rival platform abandons shorter Tweets in favour of lengthy essays.

    The whole design, Navarra says, “looks remarkably similar to Twitter”.
    Yes, I know social media ain't a scene, it's a goddam arms race, and this probably would have been developed anyhow. But when Musk slams his figurative car into the wall and blows a tire, Zuckerberg has an opportunity to either take a free pit stop or stay on the track for better field position. Either way, there's no reason they can't take the free chance to pull ahead while Musk is limping towards the garage and Truth Social tries to do a three-point turn in oncoming traffic.

    Supposedly, Zuckerberg started work on this a few weeks after Musk took over. This is no small task, and no small expense. Zuckerberg's not doing this on a whim, like, say, reinstating Nazis on Twitter was. This is a calculated business move and Zuckerberg wouldn't be pushing it if he didn't think it could work. Pairing with Instagram could be a serious team up, a real Leclerc-Sainz to Twitter's Russell. Advertisers are also more likely to flock to a winner.

    Another way to look at it: they didn't think they could succeed, until Elon Musk took over. Then they knew they could.

    Zuck ... another dumb-persons-idea-of-a-smart-person. Or just another guy whose parents owned the equivilent of a emerald mine in New Jersey.

    Devin Nunes and Troof Social have had like a 3 year head start.
    Jack Doresy has had like a 18 month head start.
    Whatever the fuck mastadon is supposed to be.

    I just wish we could maroon all these libertarian tech-bros to a deserted island. With a pile of cocaine and steriods. The footage would probably even shock the directors of New Extemity genre.

    The difference is that neither Nunes, nor mastodon, were sitting on top of around 40B of cash-on-hand and a free cash flow (amount of cash a business has after paying for operating expenses and capital expenditures) of around 8B per quarter after the company stopped fooling around with the metaverse. I forgot the huge built-in user base of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

    Not entirely true, there are many places outside the western world where it's very popular (I think India) it also has features that the other platforms like twitter doesn't have, like groups and marketplace and such.

    Personally I don't really use it much only for family stuff, since again it's actually useful for stuff like that.

    Well then, considering the two largest demographics are primarily millennials and older zoomers at 25-34 and just below that with 18-24, with Gen X popping up in the next block for 35-44, I'm glad you don't take your 17 year old as a source of factual and accurate information and you spend 10 seconds checking before going, "Yep, my 17 year old is surely right and there's no way that they just have a silly opinion as a 17 year old."

    TBF Facebook is not the only social media Meta has. They also own Instagram and WhatsApp. The latter one is kind of essential to communicate with people in general outside the US

    The claim by them is obviously ridiculous, but otherwise it's still irrelevant, barely anything has changed in the distribution from 2017 to 2023.
