On topic: Elon Musk’s Disgusting Tweets Are Legitimately Dangerous

Sexualizing women and making penis jokes may be all in a day’s work for the world’s richest man, but the consequences run deep.

These types of crude jokes are major HR violations—as they should be. Not only do they foster a hostile environment for women (or anyone who objects to such misogynistic behavior), they represent a huge step back to the days before #MeToo, when women were expected to laugh off such garbage or be labeled “difficult” or “humorless” or worse.

Comments on women’s bodies, weight, and perceived sex appeal (or lack thereof) should all be deemed socially unacceptable. But they should also be absolutely off limits in the workplace (as should the boss proposing penis-measuring contests).

If your workplace is Twitter, and your boss is Elon Musk acting like a pig on Twitter—how can you not feel intimidated? Who wants to be the first to stand up to the bully with $245 billion and 147 million Twitter followers?
Well, that second figure's dropping, at least...

Musk is a leader, whether he lives up to the responsibility or not. Young men and boys shouldn’t be shown Musk’s way as the path forward. His antics on Twitter aren’t a measure of a man so much as they are windows into a destructive underbelly of American culture. Manhood isn’t measured by penis size or physically fighting one’s business rival.

And the people who work at Musk’s companies shouldn’t have to put up with his unabashed toxic masculinity.

Speaking of his followers, saw some folks that apparently used the bot-detection tools on Elom's account. Reportedly 70% or so of his followers are not real people who use Twitter with any regularity, i.e. bots and dead accounts.

Man, it freaks me out EVERY SINGLE TIME when the thread page count jumps and I can't scroll forward to it. Who was it this time? Was it the pineapple pizza hit squad?

It's great that Elon is out there signal boosting a bunch of nazi fucks conspiracy theories resulting in innocent people not feeling safe to return home because they've been doxxed by a bunch of nazis that identified the wrong person.

Direct harm he's responsible for causing and making worse.

There was a person over in another Politics thread asking about having their account fully wiped from the forums. Can't remember the name. UnifiedSomething? UnionSomething?

Someone deleted their account apparently, missing lots of pages here and other threads.

Here's a fun article about how Elom managed to spend $44B on a social media company and functionally burn it to the ground in roughly 8 months.

As a reminder: If Elom hasn't fired almost all of Twitter's engineers and staff and caused massive brand damage to the platform, Threads would not currently be eating its lunch. And its dinner. And its meals for the next few weeks, too.

Really, the worst accomplishment of Elom is getting people to "like" and speak positively about Mark Zuckerbot. I've done it too, but I still felt fuckin gross and needed to take a hot shower afterwards.

In the first two full days that Threads was generally available, Thursday and Friday, web traffic to twitter.com was down 5% compared with the same days of the previous week. As a year-over-year comparison, it was down 11% compared with July 6 and 7, 2022. Twitter traffic has experienced an overall decline even in the absence of Threads and was down 4% year-over-year in June.

In a bad sign for app user loyalty, Twitter user retention has also declined. On Android, the percentage of new users who are continuing to regularly use the Twitter app after 30 days has dropped from 19% in May 2022 to 16% in May 2023. In contrast, the loyalty of new Instagram users has held steady at about 40%.

Threads needs to add a desktop version and a chronological feed. It feels way to much like Instagram rn. Which if I want Instagram but only words Id just stay with instagram. Hopefully they add this

Also for the life of me I cant manage to limit Threads to only ppl that I follow.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said a feed for Threads showing posts in chronological order is currently being worked on.

No news on when it will be accessible on desktop browsers. They are probably holding back in fear of the servers not being able to handle the traffic.

So Elon out there promoting a white nationalist having a sympathetic sit down interview with a sex trafficker and rapist?

I wonder why advertisers feel the platform isn't brand-safe?

Also, over/under on if Elon watched that one episode of Tucker and now regularly tans his testicles?

To be fair, you can't get better advertising than "I made the ceo of my closest competitor scream for me to release them" considering how much of Musk's sycophants like to claim they are the ubermench

it's funny because elom plays to the big hypermasculine alpha male crowd with his human keg torso of a body

meanwhile zuck is apparently actually kinda fuckin cut and has the training to actually throw down and choke out a motherfucker (or get chocked out, that too)

I bet it's because elom takes brain force from alex jones, isn't it. that's what does it for him, I've seen those alex jokes before/after pics

And now Musk is amplifying Andrew Tate and Tucker Carlson for twitter clicks.

I guess the video is a "movie"? OR a documentary or something? I keep seeing references to it as a "movie" and I'm confused since I can't get over Tucker wearing his boat shoes with no socks that's just fuckin weird man.

Well thanks for that disturbing mental image.

But also, yes. I bet he totally does that.

No surprise there, Musk knows Tucker is low on views and wants some of that advertising money. Twitter's traffic is down further than I-95 in Philly.

...what? It's back open? Well, shit, there goes that analogy.

They did a quick job with melted glass sheets. It's temporary but damned impressive work.
