Twitter Threatens Legal Action Against Nonprofit That Tracks Hate Speech
Just gonna drop this NYT article here, link is good for 2 weeks
Musk put that bright light on his building but doesn't want one on Twitter's moderation.
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.
Equality and Justice, that is how you have peace and a society that benefits all.
Is this art imitating life or just a straight up documentary?
Honest to God, I don't know what else can be said of this at this point.
in all the twitter nonsense they more important article was probably the starlink one, musk having a virtual monopoly and using it to cut off ukraines offensive because he doesnt want them to win.
one man foreign policy that is the opposite of american foreign policy, the country he promised to be loyal too when he took citizenship.
rofl, "Stop reporting on how our updated policies are causing a continued rise in hate-speech under the leadership of a guy who just unbanned a pedo who posted CP and all the Nazis".
Fuckin loser. I look forward to SF cutting off the power to the Twitter building if he keeps that stupid sign up, too.
I'll just quote a bit.
That's paranoia. Nobody needs an ulterior motive to say Twitter is crap. They just need to browse for 20 seconds. The letter cited research published by the Center for Countering Digital Hate in June examining hate speech on Twitter, which Mr. Musk has renamed X.com. The research consisted of eight papers, including one that found that Twitter had taken no action against 99 percent of the 100 Twitter Blue accounts the center reported for “tweeting hate.” The letter called the research “false, misleading or both” and said the organization had used improper methodology.
The letter added that the center was funded by Twitter’s competitors or foreign governments “in support of an ulterior agenda.”
Musk is claiming the...claims are baseless, which is, of course, the opposite of what "research" is. Also, his odds of succeeding in a defamation case are very low. Even if the publication was done 100% to drive down Twitter's traffic and/or ads, a defamation case requires the allegations to be false. And I have every reason to believe this group posted objectively true things, and can back it up.
The NYTimes also points out that May's year-over-year advertising revenue was down almost 60%, a loss of about $100 million. I'm sure Musk will demand that from the researchers seconds before his useless case is tossed in the garbage, or worse, on Twitter.
So apparently the X got taken down. lols
Well, Musk seems to have done the impossible - he has made Zuckerberg seem almost reasonable and he has made people side with landlords. Is there nothing the man can not do?
Seems that the Pentagon is buying 400 to 500 that he won't be able to turn off.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/pentagon-...001811960.html
The Pentagon has approved an agreement with SpaceX to purchase Starlink for Ukraine, which the company's founder, Elon Musk, will not be able to disconnect.
Details: In June 2023, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin approved a Pentagon deal to buy 400 to 500 new Starlink terminals and services, according to the media outlet.
Two sources familiar with the contract stated that the Pentagon will gain control over the Starlink signal settings on the territory of Ukraine, so that the new devices will be able to implement the objectives.
As noted, this was done in order to provide Ukraine with terminals and services to perform tasks without fear of communication interruption.
The publication reminds that Musk disconnected access to some Starlink terminals in Ukraine.
About 1,300 Starlink terminals purchased through a British supplier stopped working in Ukraine at the end of 2022, after the government was unable to make monthly payments of $2,500 for each, according to two sources.
In addition, the publication reports that access to Starlink also changed depending on the course of the war, as Russia was conquering territories, and Ukraine was fighting to get them back.
Depending on how the front line changed, Musk used geolocation to limit Starlink's availability on the front lines.
"This caused problems. When Ukrainian troops tried retaking cities like Kherson in Russian-controlled areas in the fall, they needed internet access to communicate. Mr. Fedorov and members of the armed forces messaged Mr. Musk and SpaceX employees requests to restore service in areas where the army was advancing," the NYT article reads.
As noted, now more than 42,000 Starlink terminals are used in Ukraine by the military, hospitals, businesses and humanitarian organisations.
Background: SpaceX took measures to prevent the Ukrainian military from using the Starlink satellite Internet to control drones in the region during the country's war with Russia.
After the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation, asked Elon Musk to provide Ukraine with Starlink, and Musk responded, and on 28 February Ukraine received the first satellite internet stations, with deliveries continuing in March.
Thanks to Starlink equipment in Kyiv Oblast, residents of the cities of Irpin and Romanivka were able to restore communication after the Russian army withdrew from the area.
On 20 April, Fedorov said that the regulator had allowed all categories of users to use Starlink terminals, not just critical infrastructure.
In early May, SpaceX allowed Starlink satellite internet subscriber kits to be moved from one location to another.
Disconnecting mobile communications and the Internet is one of Russia's methods when attempting to occupy by creating an information vacuum in a certain territory and mislead people with Russian propaganda.
Zuck has been endlessly ridiculed and dunked on for his handling of facebook and various disasters like Cambridge Analytica and the metaverse, and yet he seems like the bigger man when Elon wipes billions and decades of good will by just posting random shit, it's whimsical.
UPDATE: According to Musk's lawsuit, he's suing CCDH on the grounds that they're being funded by Musk's competitors and the government, and that's fraud.
"Can you sue someone on the grounds they work for the government?"
I hope not, I work for the government.
"Did Musk flat-out call them liars?"
He claimed they were using flawed methodology, which he's an expert on, considering he said Twitter was misrepresenting the number of bots, then dramatically increased the number of bots. Especially bots pushing hate speech. Hey Elon, wanna sue me too?
