I wonder how Twitter's stock price is.

    (15 seconds later)

Oh, right. Delisted. I can't imagine what would hurt Twitter more than a mandatory charge for logging on to see ads.

EDIT: Oh wow, the page count is really fucked up, huh?

Supposedly Elon's biggest cheerleader here had their account deleted, so that explains it.

So, I was doing a deep dive on this dumbass for funsies and after finding out a lot of unsavory shit--I discovered one of podcasts I listen to on and off again has already done a 2-parter on him.

Yes, it's over 4 hours of podcast, but the TL;DR of it all is, unsurprising to us all I'm sure, that Musk has failed upwards his entire life thanks to being born rich and never being told no by his racist-as-fuck family. Far from being an "awkward genius", he's just plain "awkward". His coding is garbage, he has no new ideas that haven't been stolen or bought from others, and in his drive for "environmentally friendly cars!" he's had endless EPA fines and violations. Fuck this loser and his sycophants.

We dug our own grave with the Cybertruck

Suddenly, the billionaire megagenius brain behind the Cybertruck is into socialism. It's no longer his brilliant and cool and obviously terrible idea, it's our grave that we dug. Interesting that all success is attributed to him and all failure attributed to the team.

And discussions of whether or not there's even a market for a vehicle like this. Anecdotally a lot of the rich folks in my area LOVE their Rivian trucks. They at least don't look offensively bad, but I've not seen a single one that's actually used as a work vehicle or by anyone that would actually need to use a truck as a truck.

Otherwise I'm glad to see his changes to his $44B Twitter purchase, now a fraction of that value, continue to supercharge misinformation and increase divisions

If I worked and needed a flatbed truck for work I'd be looking for a 30 year old ford pick-up.

You know, where the bed is actually bigger than the cab.

As for the "do people who want trucks want electric trucks". A lot of people who drive trucks do it as "F YOU" to others.
They're actively unsafe to everyone outside of them.
They (the modern SUV truck) were created as a huge regulations dodge...

    So... yeah...

X usage declines in first year under Elon Musk. The number of monthly active users decreased by 14.8 percent worldwide and 17.8 percent in the U.S, according to SimilarWeb.

Headline a little misleading or confusing to me I guess. Add this in article for context.

Mobile app downloads dropped about 38 percent worldwide and 57 percent in the U.S. between October 2022 and September 2023
I saw another tweet mentioning downloads so less people are getting the app. Usage? Likely, and we have reported this before. Now his endgame is monetization and that too is not going well but back to usage if he get enough maybe that is good enough for him.

    Edit:

The number of people actively tweeting has dropped by more than 30 percent, according to previously unreported data obtained by The Washington Post

    So this is new.

In article this actually reports on what I see as users; people who tweet. Down 30 percent, ouch! Considering how much bots are trying to do the job you have to think that real life accounts must really be at a dire number.

Was gonna post this. But it definitely shows that Elom is shitting the bed with his insane Twitter policies. Blue check marks used to mean you could trust that the twitter account was 1. Who the account said it was 2. thus verified by Twitter and generally a reliable source of information.

But in our post-fact world this made conservatives, whose entire belief system revolves around believing conspiracies, very mad when they couldn't get blue checks. So once blue checks were buyable, pretty much every blue check mark on any post that's remotely political is a bunch of nazi conspiracy bullshit, cluttering up the top sections of any reply to any tweets. It's a quagmire of disinformation and hatred that one has to wade through to see what NORMAL people have to say about the issue.

I do hope this is the reason Twitter use is declining. But honestly, there's all kinds of reasons. This NYTimes piece is loaded with personal anecdotes but the one you're talking about is

“I can’t say I agree with the people who were censored before, but I’m incredibly offended that it was allowed to happen,” said Peter Wayner, a technology writer in Baltimore. “I can think for myself. I don’t need a Trust and Safety Council to do it for me.”

Anymore, I mostly hop on after work for a few minutes to see who died, then block a few dozen blue checks. It makes me feel good  There's even a Chrome extension that automates the blocking It skips the accounts you're actually following, which is nice; for all maybe three Blue accounts I follow (artists get a pass. Sometimes).

I think since the ownership transfer, I've followed maybe a handful of new accounts, and all of those have been artists or, like, "here's a cute dog" type accounts. In no small part because I don't actually trust anyone to be who they say they are, unless that account was already being followed by a whole bunch of people I was already following. Which is a dumb thing to have to say, but in the age of something horrifying happening every six and three-quarter minutes, it's important to make an active attempt to not be suckered into bullshit.

If it weren't for my two real life friends and a handful of actually super funny accounts, I probably would have ditched the site even before The Bad Times if we're eating an honesty scone. But I have an aversion to social media as a whole, so I am biased from the word go.

Don't forget CP, one guy posted CP, he was banned. But all Elon did was delete the comment and unban the guy. https://www.washingtonpost.com/techn...cre-elon-musk/

IBM has suspended advertising on twitter after its ads were placed next to posts praising Hitler and nazism. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that nazis are on twitter. Surely musk wouldn't...oh wait, that's right, he just called an antisemitic conspiracy theory posted on twitter 'actual truth.'

The White House has responded to Elon Musk‘s amplification of an X/Twitter post earlier this week that promoted an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

“It is unacceptable to repeat the hideous lie behind the most fatal act of antisemitism in American history at any time, let alone one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” said White House spokesman Andrew Bates.

Bates was referring to the 2018 Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh and the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

Bates added, “We condemn this abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate in the strongest terms, which runs against our core values as Americans.”

On Wednesday, Musk endorsed an X/Twitter post in which a user wrote, “Jewish communities have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.” The post pushed the “great replacement theory,” or the claim that Jewish people want to bring non-white undocumented people into western countries to reduce the influence of whites. The convicted killer in the Tree of Life shootings had embraced that theory.

“You have said the actual truth,” Musk responded.

Musk later tried to clarify his post, singling out the Anti-Defamation League as a group that “unjustly attacks the majority of the West, despite the majority of the West supporting the Jewish people and Israel.”
Yeah, still going aces over at Twitterland. Elom is now signal boosting some fairly explicit antisemitism - a defacto endorsement given his posting behavior and the content of his message endorsing its "truth" - and being directly called out on it by the White House.

Surely one of these days this kind of behavior might trigger some kind of security review for him or something. Though I guess being a virulent racist isn't really something that loses you clearance these days and all that.

the saddest of losers with too much money and no more brains. I laugh every time I see pics of his stupid fucking truck idea with all the panels misaligned and uneven as fuck because making a truck with tiny-ass, useless bed and a stainless steel body is one of the dumbest ideas ever.

Elom's family moved from Canada to apartheid South Africa in 1950. That says a lot about his upbringing and where his values may lie right there.

Companies pulling ads from X: Disney, Apple, IBM and more

The move from several companies and organizations to pause ads on X, formerly Twitter, comes after owner Elon Musk backed an antisemitic conspiracy theory. Civil rights groups have also reported a rise in antisemitism and hate speech on the platform.

Media Matters for America, a left-leaning non-profit, recently published a report identifying multiple companies whose ads on X appeared next to far-right posts.

X's CEO Linda Yaccarino said in a statement Thursday that the company's "point of view has always been very clear that discrimination by everyone should STOP across the board."
"We've asked them nicely to stop" doesn't seem to be working. Have you tried "stand back and stand by"?

"When it comes to this platform — X has also been extremely clear about our efforts to combat antisemitism and discrimination. There's no place for it anywhere in the world — it's ugly and wrong. Full stop," Yaccarino added.

An X executive told Axios on Thursday that the company "did a sweep on the accounts that Media Matters found and they will [no] longer be monetizable" and that the specific posts it highlighted will be labeled "Sensitive Media."

That hasn't stopped some of the site's major advertisers from pulling out.

Companies that have suspended their ads on X:
    • IBM: The company said Thursday in a statement shared with Axios that it "has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination, and we have immediately suspended all advertising on X while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation."
    • Apple: Sources told Axios' Ina Fried that the company was pausing its ads on X.
    • Lions Gate Entertainment: A spokesperson for Lions Gate Entertainment confirmed to Axios that it would be pulling all advertising from X.
    • Disney: A source confirmed to Axios on Friday that it would be pausing ads on X.

European Commission: Johannes Bahrke, a spokesperson for the commission, confirmed Friday at a press briefing that it would be freezing advertising on X. Bahrke said the EU's executive body had "seen an alarming increase in disinformation and hate speech on several social media platforms in recent weeks, and X is certainly quite effective of that."

Musk posted to X on Wednesday "[y]ou have said the actual truth" in response to an X post that claimed Jewish communities support "dialectical hatred against whites."

The White House on Friday denounced that post in a statement on Friday: "That thing Edge- posted."

Granted this seems completely intentional and totally by design, but Linda might just go down as one of the worst, feckless, most ineffective CEO's ever.

Part of me can't really hate on her for literally just being a warm body to attach the CEO title to, she's probably being fabulously compensated for doing basically nothing while Elom continues to invest all his time and energy into the company he was supposed to let her run.

Already seen a buncha blue checkmarks crying about cancel culture and it's delightful.

If it was just me, no SO, I'd probably do that job until I had the cash to live quietly without interference for the rest of my life.
It's not like it has a long shelf life, and in the end Elmo Merkin is the one fucking everything up.
