That's a bad analogy.
Cyanide occurs naturally in some food-stuff, and there are in fact allowed doses, especially for apricot kernels and almonds (and especially in Africa cassava).

In the US it also seems that cyanide sometimes is used to eradicate pests by spraying on on citrus plants (that children also eat), with similar limits.
