Elon's banned other people for pointless reasons, so it was a reasonable hypothesis. No one was claiming they knew for sure that Elon personally banned the guy.

If I hear a loud "bang" outside my house, I think "car backfiring". That doesn't mean I'm a bad person for "leaping to conclusions" when it turns out it was gunfire; it means in my neighbourhood, car backfires are much more common than gunshots, so I assumed the most likely conclusion until I had better evidence.

Because that's the thing; people adjusting their positions when new evidence or information comes to light is not "taking a loss". It's how reasonable people with critical thinking skills behave. It's how science works, as a system. Claiming some kind of nonsense "gotcha" because people adjusted their positions based on evidence is just a spectacular kind of self-own. All you're doing is admitting you yourself don't assess your positions based on the evidence, and you condemn those who do.
