It's also definitely funny that the idea that Twitter's previous board might have favored the Democrats was the very death of free speech itself, but now that the new CEO directly promotes right-wing ideals, forces them on the userbase as much as he can, censors according to his heart's content, and all but campaigns for his favorite candidate those same criticisms are nowhere to be found. All very unexpected, of course.

The internet: where to every action is opposed an unequal overreaction.
I have absolutely no idea why the likes of… say, Beyonce and Taylor swift and a handful of other famous musicians/actors/whomever haven’t just backed some basic Twitter clone. Make it easy enough to swap to and I really see no reason that it wouldn’t quickly leave Twitter behind.
Much like Facebook eating MySpace no social media platform, no matter how “dominant” it may seem, stands eternal. And musk seems intent on digging its grave.
Hopefully twitter’s replacement can avoid selling out to an obvious narcissistic right-wing wannabe demagogue.

As someone who lived through the Tumblr NSFW ban I can assure you that “you will not miss anything” is very, very untrue.
Social media communities followings are difficult to build and a whole lot of businesses and creatives rely on those followings for both exposure and income; the Twitter alternatives are either too restrictive or don’t have the reach to make it worth the transition.
If you have some magical panacea to offer those people in order to get them off of Twitter then, by all means, share with the class. What shall it be, I wonder? Eat less, bootstraps, that sorta thing? Lol.

"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.
Equality and Justice, that is how you have peace and a society that benefits all.
That’s why a few megastars need to jump on the bandwagon of backing a new one. I imagine there’s a lot of money to be made (initially) in a “new” Twitter.
If Trump’s dumbass social media company hasn’t completely collapsed this far in then one that’s actually popular with normal people and that has real celebrities using it seems like it would clean up pretty well.

Uhm. I wasn’t talking about businesses. I was talking about natural persons who are on Twitter in a personal capacity. Anyone in that category should 100% close their accounts if they have any sense or integrity.
And when they do just watch everyone else follow. Even your NSFW business that you worked hard to build a community for will not want to be on a platform that doesn’t have a community outside of nazis and Elon’s bots. Unless your business is Nazi Porn in which case you will thrive.
“Natural persons” also rely on Twitter for income and exposure, Mary, and “you will thrive” is categorically untrue as mentioned with the Tumblr purge lol.
Maybe rather than going into hysterics and blaming people for trying to make an honest living you should be blaming the lack of regulations that permit that sort of internet environment - something which no matter of Kantian wankery will solve.

Essentially, they will be at the mercy of M'lord Elom granting them a patent or fiefdom on his platform.
Did I say future, I mean look at these new changes to the twitter ToS today ya'll.
In the new Twitter Terms of Service , you will grant them licence to use your content to train their machine learning and artificial intelligence models.
Sorry, this is m'lords forest, you're hunting his elk. Your content is now m'lords. To use in his frankenAI monster. That will replace, then have the robotaxi back over you.
The new ToS replaces the California office with the new location in Texas.
All cases that are not automatically put into arbitage, are now heard by m'Lords personal judge and shareholder, Geoffery Reed IV.
If you view more than 1 million posts (replies too), within 24 hours, you will be charged $15,000 USD per 1 million posts.
You are tresspassing on m'lords bandwidth!
Ya, sucks to rebuild your online brand or whatever. But the writing 'tis on the wall.
Forget Threads, Zuck also wants to also harvest your data and most of thee above. Thos Hawaiian waygu arent going to fart macadamia nuts on their own.

What a fantastic way to drive creators off your platform - by ensuring that they know what their creative works will be plagiarized by Leon's AI without compensation. Which to be fair it will probably do anyways since every AI outfit largely seems to try to get away with as much theft as it can before it gets caught and asked to stop, politely.
Yeah, "If you post I own your stuff" is a great way to have no one post their stuff on your platform ever again.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death
Much smaller scale, but Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro recently tried this with their D&D OGL and it backfired on them horribly. Multiple big creators, including Critical Role, are now developing their own systems, despite WotC backpedalling and putting everything in creative commons. Somehow, telling other complete brands that you are just going to seize their profits and intellectual property (is IP the right phrase here?) doesn’t go over well.
Can only imagine the outcry if it’s scaled up to all of Twitter’s userbase instead of a (relative) handful of tabletop gamers.

Gosh I hope this is one of his many investments that doesn't go anywhere.Elon Musk is now a Republican mega-donor.
Musk, estimated to be the world's richest person, was the sole donor to the political action committee he created, America PAC, a group that spent about $72 million to support Donald Trump's reelection bid between July and September, according to a new quarterly filing with the Federal Election Commission.
Musk's $75 million in giving was among several big fundraising hauls disclosed Tuesday in filings with the FEC. The filings show Musk joined other prominent Silicon Valley figures in supporting Trump, including the venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, who each donated $2.5 million to a super PAC aligned with the former president. (Horowitz has since said that he will make a "significant donation" to support Harris.)
Well, here's another example of how fucked America's Campaign Finance Laws are. As an Individual, Musk can only donate "X" (pun intended) amount of dollars to a political campaign but if he forms a Super PAC...he's basically unlimited with how much he can give...even if he's the sole contributer.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
