So Musk is part of the government now, does that mean his penchant for blocking views he doesn't like breaking actual freedom of speech? That thing he bought twitter to protect.

That's actually an interesting concept. I would think a decent lawyer could definitely make a case, given he has absolute control over Xhitter.

Where it'll fail is that DOGE isn't actually part of the government in any way. It's basically not a real thing at all. It's an external "think tank" (the hardest of quotes) that offers advise but has no actual authority whatsoever over anything. DOGE could say "the FBI needs to fire half its staff and downsize significantly for efficiency", and the FBI's official response can be "sure, dork, eat our collective asses and fuck off about it."

The only reason they'd listen is that Trump can fire the head of the FBI for not listening, and put in someone who will. But that's about Trump, not DOGE having actual power.

Despite the name, it's not a US federal executive department, which would make it a part of the Cabinet.

I'm sure Musk would love to be called Secretary of DOGE, though.

Also, you can just call it a "dink tank". Seems appropriate.

He never would, though. The transparency and accountability requirements would be too much, and he's too busy borrowing other people's accounts to play games to farm internet points.

Oh, I didn't say he wanted the hassle, just that he wouldn't mind being called Secretary of DOGE.

Although now that I think of it, I guess it would really just be Secretary of GE, wouldn't it?

Blocking someones hate is not breaking actual freedom of speech.

It's different as an official member of the government, and we have case law to this effect. For example, Donald was not allowed to block people from his Twitter account as it was found to be an official communications channel and blocking people was a violation of the First Amendment.

I'd stick to Swedish Constitutional law if I were you.

The president, let alone the president elect, doesn't get to just create whole departments just because he says so on Twitter.

    Trouble between Musk and MAGA.

    https://newrepublic.com/post/189683/...e-verification

The online beef between Donald Trump’s Silicon Valley backers and the more traditionally conservative MAGA base has culminated in Elon Musk allegedly using X to censor his fellow Trump supporters.

Laura Loomer, Gavin Mario Wax, ConservativePAC, and Owen Shroyer all had their X verification badges removed Thursday night after criticizing Musk’s stances on labor and immigration earlier in the day.

“All of our influencers have now lost verification status, as well as our own page,” the Trump-supporting ConservativePAC wrote. “Our brand did nothing. We spoke out against HB1 visas and it appears that @elonmusk intentionally shut us down? Is this the new status quo from America’s ‘most free’ social media platform?”

“I mean right after @elonmusk called me a troll today, my account verification was taken away, my subscriptions were deactivated and I was banned from being able to buy premium even though I was already paying for premium,” said Loomer. “Clearly retaliation.”

“My verification badge is now under review. Weird! Didn’t change anything,” said Gavin Mario Wax, another vocal critic of H-1B visas.

This all comes after Musk and fellow Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, co-chair Vivek Ramaswamy engaged in some post-Christmas infighting with conservatives about whether Asian immigrants on H-1B work visas or pure corn-fed Americans would make better SpaceX employees.

“A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers,” Ramaswamy said in a long, rambling post Thursday on X. “A culture that venerates Cory from ‘Boy Meets World,’ or Zach & Slater over Screech in ‘Saved by the Bell,’ or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in ‘Family Matters,’ will not produce the best engineers.”

Musk expressed similar sentiments, noting that “the number of people who are super talented engineers AND super motivated in the USA is far too low,” before soon getting into a fight with his own followers about the issue.

And apparently, the oligarch has thin skin when it comes to his critics.

“Insane that blue checks are being removed from accounts that have been vocal in their criticism of the H1B racket. Horrible look,” conservative influencer Wax said in a separate post. “I’ve supported Elon and X. Anyone who was at the @NYYRC gala can attest that I dedicated a large portion of my speech to praising Elon. Sad!”

This racialized internal strife has yet to be commented on by President-elect Trump, and may spell trouble for the future of DOGE, Musk, and Ramaswamy.

In the early days, SpaceX heavily recruited, and still is recruiting, from Caltech. Here is interesting stat for Caltech, in Fall 2022, 44.1% of Caltech graduate students are foreign/international students.

    That's from Caltech website.

If this isn't a textbook definition of crashing out idk what is

For context: White supremacist MAGA are starting to realize that companies like X, Tesla, and other highly technical companies are only hiring H1 B visa immigrants. Elon and Vivek have both said they do this because white Americans are too dumb and lazy, which of course has angered the white supremacist wing of MAGA. They're demanding to know why Elon and other right wing tech companies refuse to hire Americans born on American soil, or even consider their job applications.

The short answer that Elon and Vivek won't tell you, is that H1-B migrant visa workers are effectively indentured servants. You can pay them diddly squat, and to keep their work visa they have to comply with every order given. On the other hand native born white Americans demand higher pay, and can both question their boss as well as threaten to quit if things aren't going their way.
