I've watched the video and I'm having a hard time accepting that he was knowingly and deliberately doing a Nazi salute in front of the entire world like that. It would be such an obviously insane thing to do that I can't believe even a manchild troll like Musk would do it. I'm leaning towards the idea that he was expressing his excitement in a way that didn't have the intention that people are inferring, or am I being naive? I literally can't believe it.

I would be willing to believe he is so autistic and inept that he just did some salute his "friends" taught him, and it happened to be what we saw. But also he is a grown ass man with more money than he could ever spend, so no excuse.

The "he has the tism" excuse wears rather thin when it's trotted out every time he does something especially stupid/awful, and seems most frequently used by people who don't actually know anyone on the spectrum to begin with. Because being on the spectrum isn't like, some blanket defense for being a malicious dumbass, most of my friends on the spectrum may be a bit odd in their own way but they're all fundamentally goodhearted, lovely people.

I do believe it. The signs have been there for a long while, and the voting base has shown to at best be lethargic to them, at worst reward them. Legal and political institutions have at best been inept at stopping past excesses, at worst complicit in them. The mask is now being peeled off because there is no need for it anymore. A majority of Americans are decided this is fine, because eggs were too expensive, Biden was too old and making the libs mad is more important than any democratic principle.

We'll see exactly what comes off this charade. But nothing good I suspect.

It's not the still image of the arm extended that's the problem. It's the full motion of slamming your hand to your heart and then snapping it out into that specific position.

The difference here is that Musk, on video, wasn't waving, or raising his hand or fist, he put it out with full intention of holding it at that level, and any doubt he didn't intend it is washed away when you see he did it twice.
