Like, it's supposed to help with direct personal marketing? Okay, then why do I get all kinds of targeted ads for, say, toilet seat lids after I buy a new toilet seat off Amazon? Do they think I'm a collector?

I've never seen this shit ever drive me towards any product I might actually want to buy. It's always only ever been "Oh, you bought a thing? Maybe you want buy more of same thing?" Amazon's internal "this is a consumable product you might re-buy so we assess how often you re-buy such items to suggest it might be time to buy it again" is a basic Excel algorithm I could write, and it's more useful than any of this marketing shit using AI has ever been.

And by that I mean "never once actually been useful, but at least I understand why you're asking".

I'm particularly fond of Facebook's algorithms going apeshit at the slightest push. When I actually used the damn thing, every time I'd stop scrolling at a trailer for an anime, which let it play for a couple of seconds, it'd be followed by a solid 2 weeks of being inundated with "Recommended for you" pages that were posting barely-censored hentai and shit.

So, seeing like 20 seconds of One Piece or something would curse me to have to hit ""Not interested" and "Block this page" like 100 times, and it's just such a waste of time that I stopped giving a shit entirely.

I just wish I could convince half my family to use literally anything else for keeping in contact.

Amazon has never really been good at the marketing algorithm. Grocery stores have a much more successful model. It may be that people consider thing at the grocery store to be less of a "sacrifice" when buying them. It may just be the effect of being physically there, that makes it difficult for Amazon to overcome.

If they people who actually do these things says that is exactly what it is, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS IS.

As other people have posted, do EXACTLY what Musk did in a grocery store, your job, church or anywhere else. Lets see the reactions. Because if you are not willing to do that, you know exactly what it is but are too afraid of dealing with the fallout from doing it.

Honestly some of the funniest fucking shit I've ever seen. Every conservative should totally try this at their place of work to prove it's totally not a Nazi salute.

I keep up with some artists and certain independent journalists there. Plus sometimes it's just funny to see the shit Elmo does. I don't pay for twitter blue and I have a very thorough ad blocker so I don't see any ads. Elmo doesn't see a single red cent from me, and I even cost him a little bit in bandwidth usage.

Anyway, anyone notice how so many are trying to run inference for Musk and his Nazi salute? It's a very deliberate Nazi salute. I'm sure in Elmo's brain he thought he was going to be slick with plausible deniability by "throwing his heart out" and then he just straight up did the Nazi salute because he was so excited to do it. We know that Elmo goes onto 4chan, he's whistling to his DODGE praise KEK 4chan Nazis, and anyone who's still in denial is just stupid. But please, if you still think it was "just a Roman salute" go do that Roman salute at work, preferably in front of the person who determines if you stay employed or not.

    They also act like people are pointing out the claim that Elon's a Nazi is based entirely on this one moment. And not his years of posting shit like this;

    https://forward.com/news/550035/elon...comments-jews/

Like, he's not a Nazi just because he did a Nazi salute. That was when he took the mask off and admitted to being a Nazi, after denying it for years.

Not to mention letting all the Nazis out of Twitter jail and all that, which he absolutely did not have to do.

Or his recent cozying up the AfD and all that.

Again, conservatives dishonestly demand that we not use our memories and critical thinking skills to piece together multiple pieces of evidence that all lead towards the same conclusion, and that instead we pretend each piece exists in isolation with no connection or relation to each other.

Honestly, that article has some great irony on it, especially when it comes to the ADL.

Sept. 4, 2023: White supremacist Nick Fuentes, on his America First livestream, applauded Musk’s engagement with a #BantheADL campaign on Twitter, including Musk having “tweeted 28 times in just the last 24 hours about this campaign.”

Sept. 4, 2023: Musk accused the ADL of being the “biggest generators of anti-Semitism” on Twitter and threatened a $4 billion lawsuit against them, saying they’d scared away advertisers.

Sept. 1, 2023: Tens of thousands of X users began using the hashtag #BantheADL, accusing the organization of hindering free speech by demanding that social media platforms sanction neo-Nazis and other extremists who promote antisemitism, racism and other bigotry. Musk liked one of the posts. The ADL had previously called for advertisers to pause their spending on X.
Now the ADL is saying it is a "weird gesture".

To be fair, the Nazi salute is a weird gesture.

A very specific one, too. One that I'm confident I can say that I've never "accidentally" made in my life. That's what's so funny about this.

Who amongst us hasn't excitedly thrown out an accidental Nazi salute? Twice? Let them cast the first stone!

Imagine being her boss, and having to deal with this shit on Hump Day.

Maybe this is just her video resume to try and Get hired by Tesla.

I mean, when I get overly excited, like Musk sometimes does, who doesn't throw out the Seig Heil every so often. /s

Well, she will have the comfort to know that if she works for Tesla, she might be able to sleep on the floor in an office. I hear that is what all the devout workers get as a perk.

That's a dumb hope, imo. Republicans will gladly accept your money and do some things for you, but they ain't giving massive amounts of it back should things go south for them.

So what you're describing is a Casino. We all know full well how awesome Republicans and Trump personally do with those. So there's a chance it might give more back...not a great chance...but not zero.

On one of the replies to this, it is pretty apt.

It is a real life version of the "combing of the desert" scene from Spaceballs.

Honestly, r/leopardsatemyface is pretty much where it is right now on reddit. The amount of schadenfreude is absurd right now.

Not exactly related to this post, but it is in relation to Reddit....

There are a lot of mods across Reddit now banding together and disallowing/banning links to X/Twitter moving forward.

Some notable subs I'm in that have since banned X/Twitter posts:

    r/wow
    r/nfl
    r/MadeMeSmile
    r/inflation

Oh, far more than that. FAR more than that. Outside of some of the more conservative ones, it might become a full sitewide ban that isn't official.

a lot are banning twitter, and a smaller number are also banning meta as well. it's been kinda nice, but reddit generally skews very liberal for the western/english userbase so it's also sorta expected.

I actually opened reddit for the first time in like, 6 months just to look at the subs I used to be in. It's... a bit heartening to see that nearly all of them have made the move.

Not sure how long it'll last, since iirc reddit's CEO has been a Musk dickrider in the past, but it's nice to see that a lot of people aren't happy with his weird movement that by some strange circumstance happened to be a 1:1 recreation of a particular German salute twice in a row.
