Because the alternative means reaching out to The Left and it seems like they'd rather just die than do that.

    Dude. Stop. Literally.

There's no left to reach out to.

The "left" to reach out to is as much a figment of imagination as is the Never Trump Republican. They don't exist. It's not a thing.

What you have is a collection of annoying elitist single issue purity testing EXTREMELY TERMINALLY ONLINE, endless purity testing, fragmented groups with no unifying political thought. They cannot be appealed to. If you tried to come up with a political platform that would appeal to half of them, the other half would commit ritualistic self castration before they would vote for you, and you'd be UNBEARABLE for the average voter.

That's assuming they aren't accelerationists...which half the fucking left is, so you can't appeal to them anyway.

This is the most annoying, exhausting, dumbass fucking argument.

The left is physically incapable of engaging in electoral politics. That's EXACTLY how we ended up here, and that's exactly why they have zero influence over the DNC. They are not a real voting group, it's all bullshit virtue signaling.

The whole Gaza protest movement is an encapsulation of what the "left" is. Endlessly performative maximalist screeching at Democrats over imaginary positions, and complete and total silence when a Republican goes full EXTERMINATUS.

Given how badly Tesla sales have been tanking, I was wondering how long before Musk made the government buy his swastikars. Turns out not long at all.

What I don't understand is what fucking "armored Tesla" is the contract supposed to be for.

Military vehicles like that have to undergo a fairly long testing process and Tesla hasn't announced any development for military contracts.

Meanwhile GM for example has been developing vehicles for this contract for literally years.

It's to give Elon millions/billions more in taxpayer dollars.

    That's it.

    That's the whole point.

That's why they removed the name of the car company after everyone saw it.

It's literally all just to loot the US government to enrich themselves.

I think it's gonna be hilarious when all of the complaints from government employees start rolling in about how unreliable their vehicles are, even if this is just naked corruption. The cybertruck is already a piece of shit and was being investigated by agencies that Trump has now shut down. Love that we're getting lower quality vehicles for more money to enrich a billionaire all because some dumbfucks wanted to own the libs.

I mean, who even says anyone will drive a shitty cybertruck or tesla, even? the point isn't to purchase these with the intent to use, the point is to redirect hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars as billionaire welfare.

    This seems pretty pretty relevant

Report: Tesla Cybertruck has higher rate of fire fatalities than the Ford Pinto

In its first year on the road, the Cybertruck ended up being tied to five fire fatalities through Jan. 1, a concerning trend that makes the rate of such fatalities higher than that of the notorious Ford Pinto, which was in production from 1970–80.

According to an analysis by auto news website Fuel Arc comparing the rate of fire fatalities in the Cybertruck's first year to that of the Ford Pinto during its life, the Cybertruck has a fatality rate 17 times of the problematic Pinto. Fuel Arc carried out its analysis by calculating the fire fatalities per 100,000 units, which was 14.5 for the Cybertruck compared to 0.85 for the Ford Pinto.

The comparison to this specific vehicle has to do with the Ford Pinto similarly garnering a less than favorable reputation in its heyday. In 1978, Ford recalled 1.5 million Pintos after more than two dozen people died in rear-end collisions that ended with gas tanks behind the solid rear axles exploding. The vehicle was later discontinued in 1980 and remains beloved by some, particularly those in Dearborn, Michigan, where Ford is headquartered, and a group that gathers for a drive that they like to call the Pinto Stampede.
Don't worry the Cybertruck will kill them before they start complaining.

It is one of those things that that has a magical phrase to it.

    Government Wasteful Spending.

The same shit that Elon and the rest of the gaggle of morons love to call anything they don't like.

Government Wasteful Spending. Because nothing says only being able to drive 50 miles before needing to recharge than a car that, to be actual bullet resistant or proof, needs to weigh quite a bit more than a standard car. The best example of this is The Beast car that the President drives around in. It is similar to the Cadillac CT6 or the Escalade. That car, at it's heaviest is a bit under 5600 lbs. The Beast, however, is almost 3 to 4 times that weight. To make it fully bullet proof, it weighs 15k - 20k pounds or 6800 - 9100 kgs. And mind you, The Beast doesn't have batteries in it that is going to cause it to weigh even more.

And it took them 2 years longer to release them. So initially they said end 21 and the first that rolled off was in juli 23, and it was still unfinished, also they had to do recalls at times every other month which is extremely reassuring.

Oh, there's absolutely a Left in the United States. It's just not the one the mass (corporate owned) media, and the Democratic (corporate owned) party apparatus want anyone thinking about: the labor left. Not Marxists, or Communists, or Socialists (either in their technical or colloquial meanings), but a nation full of hard-working, incredibly productive men and women who get fucked over again, and again, and again, by their government, their political parties, the bankers, the billionaires, the corporate executives pulling down seven and eight figures or more in compensation, and on and on.

There are a number of policies, from fair taxes, to health care, to unions, monopolies, schooling, etc where overwhelming majorities of Americans support the same thing. But the Democratic Party will never campaign on moving America economically to the left, because its leadership is owned by the people doing the abusing. Americans have a "choice" between a capitalist party that is overtly Christo-fascist, and a capitalist party whose only strength for over three decades has been "at least we're not Christo-fascists".

The cracks in the Democratic coalition were starting to show rather badly by the end of Obama's second term, but the advent of Donald J. Trump was sufficient to paste them over for another eight years. But the Biden's administration's failure to help working Americans come out of the pandemic as well as the investor-class did, combined with the "aww, shucks, guess you'll all vote for us in two years, won't you?" Democratic response to Trump's victory, has, I suspect, blown the lid off the the conflicts within the party.

I don't think "Vote Democrat! We're not Republicans!" is going to play as well as it has in the past. Maybe I'm wrong, but since the election, in every U.S. state I checked, "red" and "blue" alike, Republican voter registration numbers are up a little, while Democratic voter registration is down an order of magnitude more. I think Trump's election for the second time is breaking the United States. His party is ready for that, even if it doesn't go exactly the way they expect. Democratic leadership seems to think 2026 will simply be a repeat of past trends, to their benefit, and appear deaf and dumb to both the zeitgeist and the facts on the ground. The DNC just selected, "we'll only take money from 'good billionaires'" guy Ken Martin, if you want an indication of how out-of-touch they are.
"For the present this country is headed in directions which can only carry ruin to it and will create a situation here dangerous to world peace. With few exceptions, the men who are running this Government are of a mentality that you and I cannot understand. Some of them are psychopathic cases and would ordinarily be receiving treatment somewhere. Others are exalted and in a frame of mind that knows no reason."

Three men wearing MAGA hats and Department of Government Efficiency T-Shirts stormed several offices inside San Francisco City Hall Friday demanding that workers hand over documents, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s Office Director of Communications Tara Moriarty told the Chronicle the incident happened around noon. She said the three men demanded that City Hall employees turn over digital information related to alleged wasteful government spending and fraud.

The employees refused their requests and called sheriff’s deputies, Moriarty said, at which time the individuals fled the building.
It's gonna keep getting more and more stupid. Hopefully they can be charged with impersonating federal employees or something. This is so fucking stupid. MAGA is so fucking stupid.

Of course, that's why I said it's naked corruption. But you just know that there's going to be endless reports of armored government cybertrucks either catching on fire or turning into giant bricks because their computer systems fail. You know, just like real teslas.

I want to dispute part of this. They couldn't be charged with impersonating a federal employee because DOGE isn't an official government agency or department that was directly authorized and funded by Congress. The most they could be doing is impersonating a federal advisory board.

Don't give actual credence to them.

I don't think it matters (or should matter in a sane world) whether the government agency you pretend to be part of actually exists or not, if you still pretend to be a federal employee.

Where are they then, why don't they organize - if there are enough of them they surely would have a presence on social media!

Because especially after Reagan, the idea of a working class identity as a political identity has been vilified in the US. And racial bigotry absolutely serves to keep everyone fragmented. Also huge parts of the working class, not just in the US but everywhere in the West, are very conservative socially. So the culture war issues (especially regarding immigration) are a huge wedge.
