    Could be an explanation.
I used to drive a Toyota Aigo for a while and even that could fit my weekly groceries.

That *is* the explanation. Pure coporate greed and deathly allergy to regulations.

And the irony with people going "Trucks are very useful for groceries", stationcars have the same if not more boot space than the most common US trucks these days. The boot of the Kia Venga my family uses have almost as much space as those giant monstrosities does if the info I've gotten is correct.
And then there's the *height* of those vehicles that will *never* set their wheels offroad.

While my dad has a decently sized Truck, it gets driven typically ones to twice a month to take trash to a container site or just to drive so it doesn’t sit too long. Outside of those times, only if we have family that needs to move stuff or making big purchases. But the average person doesn’t ever use their trucks for those things and want to treat them as their daily drivers for some stupid reason and then complain about gas.

As far as going to the grocery store, I do that typically 3 to 4 times a week but I never get much and the store is on the same road I live off of so I just stop in on my way to other places.

My mom lives in the middle of nowhere and their grocery store was like 45 minutes away last I was there. So I can understand why they make few trips that are big.

Since we can't call out Trolls and Bad Faith posters and the Ignore function doesn't actually ignore it. Add

to your ublock or adblock filter to actually ignore ignored posters. Now just need a way to ignore responses to them as well.

I've seen people say, without a hint of irony, that they don't want to use it to haul bulky things because it will scratch the bed.

We are the same way, which is why we put a spray on liner making it harder to scratch and when you put stuff in and take it out, you make sure not to slide it. But using a truck as a daily rider and not carry stuff is a wait of gas and wear and tear on the vehicle when you have access to something more efficient and appropriate for the task that isn’t a show car.

Edit: we have gone to the point of laying towels and blankets down to avoid damaging the bed but if we aren’t using it to carry stuff or to drop the other vehicle off for oil changes and stuff like that, we aren’t driving it. Why get 16MPG when we can get 28MPG in a vehicle that holds more people and is easier to get in and out of?

For me, if you have a truck and don’t have a liner, then you need to get one or prepare for your bed to be scratched up.

The dumbest thing I have seen though is those people who lower the back of their trucks while raising the front. Makes the thing look like a dog taking a shit and also makes the truck virtually useless since anything in the back will make the tires scrub.

Unlike the Cybertruck the Slate looks like it could pass pedestrian safety checks in the EU.

Could, but probably will be as successful as a Fiat Multipla:

    God that's ugly! lol

I know a builder who used to have a Toyota pickup and got rid after about 6 months as its far too easy to steal stuff out the back, plus with the weather here in the UK a van was a better for him.

There’s the SUV conversion. Haven’t seen pricing on it but it’s likely not too bad.

I'm sure I've read the entire short story collection and I do not recall such a scene.

They’re probably talking about the bad will smith movie from the early 2000s

Toyota cars have one big advantage over Tesla. If I need any repair or body work done, I can go to any shops. Tons of OEM parts. No waiting around for parts.

With Tesla cars, you have to go to Tesla certified shops. Majority of body and repair shops won't touch Tesla cars. As of April 2025, there are only 210 certified Tesla repair centers in the US. 52 in California. Just getting an estimate can take a month. OEM parts? Good luck. Waiting for parts can take several months.

What is up with these billionaires designing their own cars? Tesla has tons of talented artists and designers that would have come up with something better than the cybertruck or this new amazon monstrosity. I am also pretty sure even chatgpt could come up with better designs, there's no accounting for taste I guess.

That's the movie. Which is bad.
Not the book. Which is good.
