I don't think Pikachu is accurate. Mickey Mouse is the face of Disney which has a ton of different films while the Pokemon Company really only has Pokemon. If I had to pick a Nintendo character for the Mickey Mouse of Anime I'd probably say Mario since he once had an anime and who the fuck really watches his shows anymore he's more of a mascot like Mickey. If you were asking who the Mickey Mouse of Gaming was then it would definitely be Mario imo.

Hello Kitty is probably the best Mickey Mouse I can think of offhand since Sanrio has many different films/shows.

    Pikachu, easily.

Everyone knows who Pikachu is. It's cute, appealingly designed, says its damn name any time it speaks, and has been part of video games, movies, TV shows, and the like that are far more mainstream than anything Goku was in. Pokemon has consistently released a major game every few years since the early 90s, and they aren't the occasional largely niche fighting game that DBZ characters feature in. Kids know pokemon, which means their parents know pokemon. Far fewer kids get into DBZ than get into the pokemon games or anime.

And as such, Goku is far less widely known. People might vaguely recognize him as "an anime guy they've seen before," but everyone knows who Pikachu is.

Gen-x'er here who didn't grow up watching anime either, but still know who Goku is.

Just as many memes relating to Dragonball as there are to Pokemon (have you never heard "over 9000"? It's not Goku, but it's Dragonball), and the Dragonball franchise makes over a billion dollars a year.

It's no one's fault that you don't know who he is, but it's strange that you don't.

The parents of millennials and late Gen Xers by and large aren't gonna know who Goku is.

But the parents of millennials and Gen Xers, who had to take their kids to see the movies that played in theaters, buy them pokemon cards and the games and had their kids up at the crack of dawn on saturday watching Pokemon on WB? They're gonna know who pikachu is.

No, it is happening. The zone changed, it belongs to the Goblins now and is their home. Hearthstone is having a mechanical themed expansion soon, November's cardback is Goblin influenced and revealed concept art shows Goblin machinery. It's a HS expansion, sorry.

Either Goku, The original Gundam, Naruto, or Pikachu as like widely recognized anime characters at the level of Mickey Mouse

True, true. Had forgotten that about him.

Still. Pokemon, and Pikachu who is basically the mascot for it, is a more well known across all kinds of people, not just anime fans. I see and hear a lot more stuff regarding Pokemon than I do Dragon Ball.

    That's nice.

    Most don't.

Now this I'm familiar with. All else mentioned so far, not so much.

But there really isn't any anime that can compare to the face of Disney. Mickey mouse has existed for nearly a century.

The Mickey Mouse of Anime is Mickey Mouse.

Disney was big influence on Osamu Tezuka and Tezuka is the dominant influence in Anime and Manga.

Mickey Mouse has fallen out of the public eye for quite some time now.

    How do you figure?
Isms bore me. I think they are only brought by people who seek to marginalize the potential of each ism to provide something meaningful. Name it, Capitalism, Socialism, even Communism-- all contain something of merit towards structuring a society. The biggest flaw in human history has been the need to take the worst of a system along with the best. It doesn't have to be all of one and none of another.

Yup if we compare historicity, Tetsuwan Atomu, better known as Astro boy, would be the most iconic character across generations.

Add-in that Osamu Tezuka is often referred to as Japan's Walt Disney.

    Probably Goku or Doraemon.

Goku, Pikachu, or Luffy. Goku has the time factor but Luffy and Pikachu have vastly more episodes. Astroboy could be a candidate but doesnt have multigenerational relevance or popularity.
