And Senate Republicans, including McConnell, were already blaming the "unhinged rhetoric" of Democrats as well. Echoed by Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, John Cornyn, and more who are pushing for additional legislation to protect Justices.
Thanks for the links, yeah it appears he was not happy with how the abortion thing was going to go it seems so far that his main issue was with gun control though. On the second link, not shocked to see them take Shumer's words like that. He was obviously not talking about wanting the justices murdered, but right wing is gonna do their usual routine. At this point though I do agree with the extra security though if that is all it is. If the two Marshals had not been there this could of been really bad.

See my edit, I read the initial report on the dudes motives wrong, so my shitposting is now just making me look foolish.

Either way, sounds like the guy was trying to make a political statement and was fine going to prison for a while over it since apparently he called 911 on himself?

Yeah sounds like he saw the two marshals got spooked and then called. Dude just fucked his life away, they will throw the book at him and with the zip ties/tape and shit they are going to be able to charge him with a lot of different things. All he did was give the republicans something to try and pivot away from after all these mass shootings.

I mean, fuck this guy and all but the attempted murder charge is wild to me given that there was no...attempt? I mean, conspiracy seems to be apt, instead.

It's weird that suddenly Republicans are very concerned about zip-ties after being very unconcerned with zip-tie guy during Jan 6.

Though I'm not sure it's a pivot Republican want since...he was still apparently planning to use a gun to kill a SCOTUS Justice. And that the cops didn't "stop" him, so much as he snitched on himself voluntarily. At least marshals responded and didn't do what NYPD did with the subway shooter and ignore the self report so they could go harass folks at homeless encampments.

Yeah I don't know if they will actually be able to get that charge to stick. @cubby any insight into this? Yeah I was thinking of that zip tie guy after they mentioned it. I think he was the one that was done in since he literally got a ride to the thing from his mom. I still see the Republicans going hard on this, they will just have 0 focus on the gun, and just talk about unhinged liberals wanting to kill justices yada yada.

Sad he didn't get the job done, the only thing that will make republicans give a fuck is when they start dying.

If he has confessed then he's basically fucked. It will depend on how it plays out, but also on some level, we want them to throw the book at people like this in general. We want our SCOTUS Justices protected, despite where they are taking the country.

Because if we start being ok with violence making the changes, then we're already done as a democratic republic.

And Republicans dying will only make the shift to Full Fascist State swing faster.

I honestly don't know how we fix this - "this" being the whole thing that is the United States.

I mean, Steve Scalise was literally gunned down at a baseball game and was arguing today that we didn't ban planes after 9/11. Not to mention countless of them died from COVID and still didn't care. They only care about their party clinging to power.

This is called appeal to tradition. Tradition is not inherently good just because it's been around for 200 years.

I realize Republicans would never win again if people got to vote, and not the electoral college/land, but it really is a stupidly outdated system. But yes, you'll come up with some excuse as to why the electoral college should still exist because you know conservative positions are inherently unpopular by virtue of being shitty.
Plenty of people have been holding their breath waiting for me to fail. I think they all suffocated years ago.

A lot of people on this forum were not concerned and were actually happy that the media was releasing Supreme court justice's addresses and telling people to go and protest. Since this is the kind of protest that was rampant in Seattle and Portland, I do not see why you guys are surprised.

Most of us didn't give a shit because things like your address aren't private information in the first place.

As for the rest; you're just lying.

Where did you find press releasd the Justice's address? I want a legit news link, not some B's either.

I searched and some people did but not the press.

He wasn't, if you got that from me I read it wrong. All the same, he oddly called 911 on himself, the whole thing is weird but fuck that loser either way.

They weren't, he's just making shit up again. An activist group apparently did, and that was reported on by media - mostly conservative media. So if "the press" leaked it, I'd imagine it would have been by the conservative media reporting on the planned protests?

A single republican death won't matter to them. Now, if the common man tried to go French Revolution on the scumbags, that might have an affect.

First thing is to change the name

There's nothing "United" about the States of America.
Isms bore me. I think they are only brought by people who seek to marginalize the potential of each ism to provide something meaningful. Name it, Capitalism, Socialism, even Communism-- all contain something of merit towards structuring a society. The biggest flaw in human history has been the need to take the worst of a system along with the best. It doesn't have to be all of one and none of another.

It's just so weird to me that people get bent out of shape over an address. What next, we learn their name? That's the same level of "private", in that it's not private at all and you'll give that information out to pizza delivery guys and Amazon shipping and it's in the phone books if your area still even puts out phone books. Ownership records are publicly accessible at your local City Hall.

While true, I'm thinking more along the lines of a successful coup.
