nice to see Texas going full Chiristofacist. Trigger law has made it so that unless Im actively dying, I cant get an abortion.
Texas is a failed state on the levels of other religiously ruled countries. I hate it here. If I ever get the chance to move, Im taking it.
no, it's the system itself that allowed this to happen, I'm sick and tired of playing on it's terms, and THAT'S the part that makes you and other's uneasy. an actual desire to see material change instead of doing the good citizen routine and voting for the right people every 2 years.
American democracy (not democracy itself) is broken, the institutions are useless and need to be tossed the hell out. anything short of that is just trying to cover the problems up with duct tape.
Precisely. The 6-3 conservative majority is the sin que non of the conservative minority's victory over the "socialist democrats", and essentially, their vehicle for autocratic control of the United States.
We've already seen that block vote in the following:
Abortions are illegal.
Private religious schools (with illegal hiring practices) can get state and federal dollars.
Gun rights expanded.
We'll see individual rights slowly erode, and the right to privacy almost vanish entirely. This is what the Trump victory did, and why the GQP didn't care a lick what Trump did or said, so long as he appointed the judges McConnell wanted. Their victory has been 30 years in the making, and today it began.
"If you are ever asking yourself 'Is Trump lying or is he stupid?', the answer is most likely C: All of the Above" - Seth Meyers
Perhaps we could arrange a class for both of you. That way we can throw in some lessons about US Demographics, how the Senate and the filibuster work, and how the US constitution basically means Republicans can control the majority with a minority of the population even before we get to gerrymandering.
Anyone who didn't expect Manchin to do exactly what he's doing, he's basically a solid moderate republican with a slight bent towards the left on some social policies, is a complete idiot. And it seems like you are surprised by his actions. I mean the concept of this isn't even new. Sinema was a surprise but considering it only took a single person to step out of line and dem's partial control of the senate means zilch.
Those two aren't responsible for all of dems past issue, but to act like they aren't a huge singular issue blocking multiple initiatives is just straight up stupid.
Elections have consequences. Jill Stein, And anyone who didn’t vote for Hillary over BS I blame for this.
Wait till they get to gay rights as the Log Cabin Republicans just found out.
That’s what Democrats get for nominating such a bad candidate. Some very political people idealize the election of a slate of policies and not a person, but every election shows the person and what they represent come as a package deal. Hillary, Trump, and Biden. For better or for worse.
Now, the country returns to the short-circuited process from the 1970s in fighting 50 different abortion compromises and watching the results from them. I’m thinking on the scale of the next two decades of legislative battles. The states that most deeply relied on nine legislators wearing black robes have the most work to do. Even the pro-life side has a ton of work to do, because they have to newly persuade people that thought the constitution had something written in it about abortion (or that abortion was illegal everywhere but for Roe vs Wade). This is particularly important for people that have a strong opinion on one side or another of abortion, but don’t have a clue about who is their state representative(s).
"I wish it need not have happened in my time." "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
i mean, not to be a pedantic shit about it, but the whole '# world' schtick... well it has a long history and it has morphed over the years so it's not like i'm going to try to claim ownership or sole propriety of what is basically a nationally recognized colloquialism, but it's my understanding that it generally refers to economy and technological development.
cultural markers don't really factor into it.
now, i'll totally agree that the US is a comical shit show for a variety of reasons, but honestly at this point i'm just posting a quibble because i like posting armchair intellectual bullshit and am just looking for an excuse, so i'll shut up about it.
The conservatives are aggressively forcing their religion and personal views on their entire country by masking it as democracy and freedom. Where have I seen this before?
"You know you that bitch when you cause all this conversation."
No there are those that protest voted then came back to try to create more chaos.
People decided to not give a shit about their own vote and blamed Hillary.
I voted against this shit every step I voted specifically to do the most to prevent this. And I’m against abortion but hey fuck it.
Stupid people said fuck it it’s not cool to care about anything but themselves. Welcome to the GQP
