its a certain type of person that saw Roe repealed, and thought "YEY, ITS TIME TO TROLL!!"
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement Friday, in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, that states cannot ban mifepristone, a medication that is used to bring about an abortion.
In some good news, DoJ is arguing that states cannot ban the sending or receipt of medical abortions through the federal mail system.

funny how "engaging in politics in any other meaningful way" somehow equals = expecting the Democrats as a party to do a god damned thing. I don't except them to do anything, that's the whole point of their party. but yes, lets keep pinning the blame on those two forever and sit back and do nothing as the material conditions get worse and worse, that will definitely solve all of our problems.

This is what you get for allowing Trump to win in 2016. I know it sucks when you realistically only have two options but sometimes you need to vote for the party instead of the person.

Only through the mail system. They can still outlaw the drug within their state so if someone is caught with it, they can charge them

wow, maybe if you told Hillary Clinton how the electoral college works maybe those extra 3 million votes might have mattered.

Engaging with politics is important, but be reminded that people thinking “all politicians are the same” is part of what caused this whole debacle.

Thinking that the perceived corporatism and apprehension of the democrats was as bad as the rank and fervent evangelizing of the republicans is wrong. This should make it painstakingly clear that is not the case.

To wit: if Trump hadn’t been able to install three ultra-right wing Supreme Court justices, this would not have happened. This, specific thing which affects people’s lives directly.

Pretending that this is all some inevitability removes the accountability of individuals. There are massive systemic issues to be sure, but all the people at play are not just identical pieces in a chess board, all effectively interchangeable.

Just as “Trump is the same as Hillary” was an errant sentiment that was not to be cultivated, “all these politicians are the same so none of it matters” can be equally dangerous. Because that effective dissension, whether it results in inaction due to apathy or refusing to play the game as it is, results in stuff exactly like this.

If you want anything done you need to axe the legislative filibuster, and in order to do so you'd need a solid majority in the Senate.

The numbers aren't there. So yes; voting is still essential. To say nothing of the state level.

This is why it's so hard to mobilize against Republicans. This country doesn't have the stomach or drive to actually fight these people. No matter how loudly and openly fascist they are, all we can muster in response is political hipsterism, apathy, and people twisting themselves into knots to blame everyone but the party and people responsible for it all.

Just electing a president isn't enough. You need to be able pass bills and appoint judges. Trump didn't overturn RvW, his judges did. If we're fucked it's because people are too cynical and pessimistic to participate in their own government.

Oh, okay, so you're just not interested in actually getting anything done. Gotcha.

Do you have a workable alternative or are you just gonna sit there and stew in resentment poisoning?

Disheartening to see all the MAGA shits gloating about this on social media. Seems to be a lot of "we're just getting started" too. It's not about women's health or the sanctity of life, it's about owning the libs. What a mess.
