Republicans fucked this up so badly. They shouldn't have been so extreme. They guaranteed that dems will get millions of votes they may not have gotten otherwise.

Their base is that extreme and thats how they motivate turn out. Theyve trapped themselves particularly in the trump era.

Im not sure how true this is for the actual politicians. Im sure some of them are fundamentalist whackjobs but im also sure many are just cynical and craven to power. They are making a calculation to appeal to that base.

No. It’s pro-big business all the time. Grandstanding in public is one thing but when they manage to accomplish anything it’s anti-worker, anti-regulation and lower taxes.
Look at Trump’s VP picks. First there was Pence who was in tight with the DeVos family and similar rich shitheads. Sure these people are evangelicals who want social issues in their favour but they’re still business people first.
Now we have his next VP: Peter Thi…, I mean, JD Vance. He’s certainly mouthy on those social issues but he’s still gonna be the front man for conservative tech bros.

Big biz is amoral. Everyone’s wallet is equal in their eyes.
The picture doesn't matter.
There are a metric shit ton of ways to influence politicians without giving them direct donations which are limited anyways. CEO's don't matter. Its one person and one person's direct donations are strictly limited. Every company was a multitude of executives, high placed management and a board of directors to contend with on top of the company itself moving money. Meanwhile there's SuperPAC's whose donations are often opaque and not limited.
And we haven't even gotten into lobbying yet.
The donation to tax cut pipeline remains unbroken.
I used to believe that was true. And yes some of them and most of their pundits are just con men and lobbyists. But a significant number of them are not motivated by greed. They are clearly motivated by hatred.
No capitalist would be in favour of abortion or against immigration. The numbers simply do not add up. Unwanted pregnancies are economic disruptions. Illegal immigration allows for cheap labour that is not subject to regulations. These policies simply do not favour profit margins.
