Well when you run a company that is likely responsible for thousands of deaths because you know better than doctors and that results in someone giving you a shot of lead....it's really easy for the general public to celebrate your end.

I think the obvious lesson here is that if there was a political party who portrayed evil CEOs and corporations as villains instead of blaming powerless immigrants it would be like shooting fish in a barrel for votes. It's too bad we don't have such a left wing party that would weave such an obvious narrative based on something everyone knows is true.

I don’t condone running around murdering people in cold blood, and the unfortunate fact of the matter is that it’s just as likely that this guy was a complete lunatic conspiracy theorist blaming this CEO for vaccines causing 5G deep state autism as it is that the shooter was some sort of “avenger for the little man against for-profit healthcare.”

Moreover, the response from these insurance companies isn’t going to be one of “hmm maybe we should be less exploitive dickheads,” it’s going to be to turtle up and claim that suddenly they’re the victims under attack.

Approximately 50K Americans die each year due to health insurance, it's the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the US. The Mexican drug cartels have nothing on the amount of death and destruction these fuckers are responsible for and we don't shed tears over El Chapo dying.

There was a recent push to use less anaesthetic during surgery.

They’ve decided this was a bad idea and will not be doing it. Possibly because this dude got shot.

Police found bullet casings with "Deny, Defend, Depose" written on them. I think his motivations seem very clear.

UnitedHealthcare CEO death reveals wider outrage over healthcare system, insurance

"You had Medicaid, you had the marketplace, then you also have subsidies to make it more affordable to purchase plans on the marketplace," Gounder said. "Those were made even more generous during the pandemic, and then those more generous subsidies were extended under the Inflation Reduction Act under President Biden."

But, there is still the challenge of why health care costs are rising.

"You have efforts to extend coverage and make more people have health care be available, but prices are going up," Gounder said.

I feel bad for his wife.
The life insurance claim was denied. The shot did not have prior authorization and was performed by an out of network provider.

EDIT: I say that as someone who works in a doc's office. We learned what words to put in the prior authorizations to avoid the automatic denial. Which is appealed, and responded to in 7 business days. Then you submit MORE paperwork for the appeal (which may include paperwork sent initially or in the appeal), which will be responded to within 7 business days.
At any point they may not receive the fax. Because reasons.

My office manager would not let me set it up to fax the patient's records (20-60 pages) at 9 PM, and resend it every 15 minutes until 8AM. Just to make sure they receive it.

If an invading force came to America, killed 60,000+ people a year and forced countless others into financial ruin, most Americans would be happy if that force was vanquished, by any means necessary.

But name that invading force, medical insurance, and somehow the story is different.

Really, it seems to boil down to whether you can make enough of a profit off your serial killing, for shareholders in your serial-murder business.

It's not about the murders, it's whether you had the capitalist gumption to turn a profit off them.

You get sent to prison for being a poor who killed people as a non-profit passion project.

    Exactly.

The wealthy in this country better be terrified.

If Musk and Ramaswamy get their way, Medicare, the only part of US health care system that works, will soon be as bad as the rest.

Anecdotal personal experience. My wife was hospitalized twice in June this year. She ended up having to be intubated for 4 days the second time. She is on Medicare/Medigap. Everything, from nurses, doctors, facilities, room, etc., were excellent. Even the aftercare was superb. The doctor wanted her to be on oxygen at home. She was released in the morning, and in afternoon a technician came to our home to set up the Oxygen machine (no need to change tanks) with extended 50-foot hose which allowed my wife to move around freely. The same with the breathing therapist. She called us. Set up the schedule and took care of everything. I think I paid out of pocket around $900 in total.
