Engaging with politics is important, but be reminded that people thinking “all politicians are the same” is part of what caused this whole debacle.

Thinking that the perceived corporatism and apprehension of the democrats was as bad as the rank and fervent evangelizing of the republicans is wrong. This should make it painstakingly clear that is not the case.

To wit: if Trump hadn’t been able to install three ultra-right wing Supreme Court justices, this would not have happened. This, specific thing which affects people’s lives directly.

Pretending that this is all some inevitability removes the accountability of individuals. There are massive systemic issues to be sure, but all the people at play are not just identical pieces in a chess board, all effectively interchangeable.

Just as “Trump is the same as Hillary” was an errant sentiment that was not to be cultivated, “all these politicians are the same so none of it matters” can be equally dangerous. Because that effective dissension, whether it results in inaction due to apathy or refusing to play the game as it is, results in stuff exactly like this.

If you want anything done you need to axe the legislative filibuster, and in order to do so you'd need a solid majority in the Senate.
