It's possible that they've been brainstorming what they wanted internally, and pitched a number of development projects and tested which ones worked best. And this is the one that beat out the rest, which they put all their resources into.

R&D takes a lot of time so I'm not surprised it would take 6 years for this. Even though it looks like a no brainer carbon copy of something we've seen 10+ years ago, Blizzard can't get the jump on things fast enough like other companies do. Not quite sure why. Like the whole Autochess fad came and went, and the closest we seen them do anything was with a Hearthstone mode.

Because they're huge and every decision has to go through many layers of approvals. In my company we took 3 years for a project I wanted to work on took off because it had to get the right Project Manager on board, with the right Technical Manager to buy in the idea and the right Head of Product to sign off on it. And with all that perfect storm, it took 2 years in between pitches and meetings to finally get the green light to start it.

Huge companies can be an equally huge blocker to innovation.

The amount of micro transactions is going to be nauseating.
You get this one hero for free, you can grind this in game currency for 12 months to be able to unlock another hero, or just BUY HIM NOW, BRING OUT THAT CC BOI

Yeah that's fair enough. My experience was anecdotal too. There might be some big companies that are more agile.

Might be wary because of WC3R. It'll happen in due time considering it's a polished-entry mobile game and therefore very likely to make back what it cost to make in a short amount of time (depending on MTX, ofc)

Are there WoW fans who play Clash of Clans? Genuine, non-cynical question. Doesn't feel like these two demographics overlap.

Last time I saw someone playing Clash of Clans was 7 years ago when my younger brother was 12.

As someone who has been playing WoW since 2005, yes I play Clash of Clans. It's a fun alternative and a great way to waste a little time when I need a small break from things.

For the game itself, it looks fine, just fine for now. People seem to forget that it was blizzard who always was taking ideas from other games and companies and making games out of it. What was the type of game blizzard came up with on their own? There was none.
Graphically? It fits nicely the premise of collecting "minis" They are toys, they suppose to look plastic. Gameplay and payment? Hard to say. Depends how they will set the payments. There are mobile games who are impossible without spending money, and there are ones that just slow you down if you don't pay. We don't know yet.

Heh, 10+ (15? no clue) years ago when mobile gaming started, the same kind of games were the first ones created. Now we have mobile phones as powerful as a computer and we still can't get a real game with more than 15 hours of development. This is the kind of game we're getting spams of on most social networks. Those with a mix of Legends, Clans, Heroes, Clash, League, Angels or whatever generic word in their names.

That's kinda sad. This shit clearly lacks Warcraft's identity. Could very easily be mistaken for any chinese rip-off game.

I'm catiously optimistic about Dragonflight(a lot of pieces still missing), i am not even going to download diablo immortal(i still play diablo 2 and i dont touch d4), i will not even download overwatch 2(even if its free) and i'l play this warcraft mobile game with my kids.

Clash Royale was fun as fuck to play during breaks at work, so I feel like this will be similar.

The fact that it has singleplayer is cool.

People bitching really need to remember that not everything is for them. Blizzard explicitly said "Oh yeah, it's gonna be a MOBILE GAME REVEAL GUYS!!!" and people expected fucking WC4? Absolutely braindead.
